fitted an oil gauge the other day, had to get an original sender from a wrecker, because the one that came didnt fit. it works but the level doesnt go above 1 bar, and mostly stays between 1 and 0. is it possable that the sender is faulty,or just my engine read out is 1 bar.

The reason it reads the way it is, is because the bit from the wrecker is most likely an oil pressure switch, not a sender. Once the oil pressure drops below a certain point, the gauge would read a much higher reading. What you need to do is find an adapter to make the aftermarket sender that should have come with the gauge, fit!

youll know cos the guage type sender is a lot bigger than the normail one

I have an EBII (with an ebii sports cluster, has oil pressure on there..) with an EL motor/EL pressure sender (NOT a switch..)
My oil pressure usually sits above the red "Low" bit on the gauge and travels around in the first block.. |

My oil pressure usually sits above the red "Low" bit on the gauge and travels around in the first block.. In that case, I am guessing the senders are of a smaller bandwidth, so to speak. Aftermarket gauges probably have a wider band, similar to oxy sensors and how they behave with A/F gauges. Best bet is to fit the aftermarket sender. So, get an adapter for it. I fitted my oil pressure gauge with the aftermarket sender, and it works perfectly.

2mm smaller? I meant in terms of voltages being sent from the sender. Some auto shops might have them. What type of gauge is it?

its 12v im prety sure, what you mean what type of gauge is it? Its an Auto Meter Smoke series oil pressure gauge

The sender sends a varying voltage depending on what the pressure is. Somewhere like Autobarn or something might have these adapters, but if not you might have to get them to order them in. Something like this is what you are after: http://autometer.com/cat_accessorieslist.aspx?pid=11

the EF/L senders are different to the EA-D ones.
i suggest you go back tot he wreckers and get one out of an Ea-D
