Got a big corner comming off one of the highways, anyways, was comparing my new wider wheels and tyres to the old ones (for the record significant amount of grip, still happy to hold at a higher speeed than when the otherones squeeled like a pig).
And the red oil pressure light came on (forgot to see what the gauge was reading). It also comes on when i reverse down my very very very steep drive way (the gauge reads pretty low). Engines still running fine, and the rest of the time the oil pressure is good according to my aftermarket gauge. So is this nothing to worry about? |

Put oil in your engine!

Yes! May be low oil level. As you corner, the oil runs to the side of the engine opposite to the pickup, or to the back of the sump while reversing downhill. Check your oil level and top up as necessary

Definately not low oil. Being an old engine I check it (coolant, power steering and what ever else) more than once a week. And she's not low. Actually spot on at the moment.
When going down my drive way oil pressure is around 8-10 kps-in2. |

I'd be very interested to hear from people that might have a response after seeing the 2nd reply there - mine's full of oil as well and I'm getting a similar situation. When I accelerate, obviously the oil pressure goes up, but when I'm stopped at an intersection/lights/idling, the oil pressure can come down to the line and the light comes on as well. I'm not quite sure what to make of this - Any suggestions guys???

my oil pressure light comes on from time to time when the car is sitting ideling on a slight angle i found. on the gauge when my car is at idle it sits very low and when normal driving its at the very top of the gauge . i check oil regually and the car has 223K on the clock and hasn't ever had a problem with the motor. so i think its just the sensor or gauge.

My oil pressure is perfect during idle. It's only on my driveway and around this corner that it has issues - which is why I don't think it's anything to serious ATM, but was still after ideas as I'm guessing it's not quite right either.

maybe the sensor that triggers the light is loose or something? if the guage is still showing fine pressure, and only the light is coming on..

No, the gauge is showing low pressure at the time when the light comes on. I was just pointing out that unlike the other two epoeople who posted, my car has no probelm with oil pressure when idling or anything, it's only the driveway and the big corner. |

I'm running an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. And I can definately tell the prssure is dropping it's between 8 -10 Lbs/in2 (at this point the engine is reving between 600 to 800 rpm as I'm usually stopped on the slope waiting for the roller door to fully open). If I remember right the oil pressure should be below 50 Lbs/in2 when the engine is reving at 2,000rpm - which is pretty much when i rev the engine up there. |

could it be that our engine block isn't earthing properly, try putting an extra earthing cable across to the chassis.
