hey guys I pick an au motor awhile back with only 125000 ks on it. ive started doing a semi rebuild on it and getting the sump modified to suit the EL k-frame is it recommended to replace the oil pump? I did find that the top half of the motor didn't have the best look to it as it had oil build up on the head but bottem end looks fine what I can see. everything down there seems to be turning fine aux gear turn fine too no play in that not like my EL one that was rooted as u saw in my previous post.

With a rebuild you should replace it. Even only a semi rebuild and 125,000km... Since the sump is off you may as well change the oil pump while you can, because it'll be a bastard to do once the motor is in...and at least you know it has a nice new one when you go to start it up for the first time.

No worries, make sure you clean the oil pick up well before bolting it on to the new pump... I've seen a couple that get a bit of gunk built up in their if the car hasn't been maintained... better to be safe and clean it out just to be sure!!!!

ull the pump out and pull it apart. Check to see if there is any scoring on the impeller or play. If not give it a good clean and you will be fine. When you assemble it use a stack of assembly lube on it. Use a new pump if you want but if the old one is Ok you will be fine. Check the price on a new pump for the AU. Make sure you ask for AU as they are different to the E series pump.

I was unaware AU pumps were actually different to E series... will probably make them more expensive being an AU specific item...so this is probably a better way to go about it

That's on an E series pump however! Surely AU is similar, someone confirm?
EDIT- Just had a look at an AU pump, pretty much same pump with different pick up. Gaskets are in same place

Just texted my mate who has an old AU pump at his place, he said that it has gaskets on the pickup and that cover on the bottom, he can't remember if it had one pump to block...
Hold up, just texted me back and he says he has seen some with gaskets and some without (he is a mechanic) maybe they are just hit and miss haha
