Hi guys and gals, just put together a new motor for my ef xr6 and am wondering, what sort of power i should realistically expect.
The work done, : Bored 30 thou and decked block. : Balanced bottom end including clutch, flywheel, balancer, rods and new pistons (i believe 5cc dish). Also fitted an AU main bearing support. : Reco head with a fairly heavy port job and shave : Wade 1673 regrind cam with shims. : Au head gasket : All up about 60 thou off head and block to give 0 deck height i was thinking obout 160-170 kw at wheels sounded about right as i already had extractors, k&n pod in modded airbox, 2.5" cat & redback exahust. But being new to modding the 6 am just after opinions Ps. When taking so much off between head and block, the holes for the power steering bracket dont line up too well, and must be reamed out with a die grinder or dremmel.

Well dont all reply at once... doesn't matter ,have booked in with Marty at Mk Automotive on Saturday week for dyno runs, to check A/F ratio and some power runs . Will be at calder the following fri night and post up results.

If you realy want zero deck you need to use a gasket that at least 35thou compressed, not that zero has any benifit over running the piston down the bore, |

Thanks, but a bit late now motor is together and running like a dream. Still running it in though. Seems to be a VERY strong motor. I did ask the machine shop to give me about 13 thou deck height but well, didn't happen. So far so good though

bugger, would've said to give the head a bit of a port and flow...
....unless you did, and I can't understand anything... hehehehe

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What comp ratio did you end up with??? I dont actually Know what it ended up at All i know is that i'm not taking any chances so am running it on 98 octane will be interesting to see dyno results. I believe it would be about 10.3-1

whats the piston to valve clearences like? I had issues with a head that had approx 0.1 taken off it with that cam, ended up having to use a different head
Also the timing chains is it noisy?, as the tensioner wont be able to take up the extra slack in the chain because the head and block have had so much taken off. |

dunno didn't check. Just bolted it all together an rotated by hand, nothing hit, so assumed it's all ok. Fitted a new timing set and have had no probs. HLA's are a little noisy, but i put that down to straight 30 weight running in oil, should shut up with proper stuff. talk about pissing in the dark...lol, guess i missed the seat first time!!

i'd put some serious thought into taking the head off and using a thicker head gasket. that sort of P/H clearence is realy dangerous.
i'd also be check the P/V clearence too. or all that money could be gone real fast |

I've second that! was there any valve relief done on the pistons considering the gasket thickness you're using now?
really dude, if you're going to fork out that much money, would it be wise to play it safe & absolutely sure? Just hate to see things happening during heat expansion! lol .

What is the compressed thickness of the au gasket??? tried to base the build around the advice the was given to ALPz, but the guy that did the head and decked the block, thought he knew better. Will talk to him again to see what we can work out, might pull the head again as i already have another gasket from the vrs kit
Thanks for the advice
