not my car but mums mazda 121. NRMA bloke said her alternator was overcharging, hence the reason for the dead battery, told her to take it to an auto electrician. Was wondering if this problem can be solved by replacing alternator or something else?

voltage regulator is stuffed. on some altenators you can just replace the reg. but on others it ties in with the whole altenator. is a little black box looking thing on the back of the altenator. best bet is to grab a price for the reg and also for a new altenator. if cash permits then just get a new altenator.
