The answer to this thread. My '96 EF Fairmont had heating issues in summer. Used to get 3 1/4's the way up the temp guage, and then lose a substantial amount of power when I first got her. A year ago I had the radiator flushed and rebuild, new thermostat, and a good quality coolant concentrate that I mix myself with de-mineralizd water. And now she warms up beautifully, never gets hot above 1/2 way. And I have the original head gasket @ 173,000 k's. So in my opinion, BY DEFAULT, whenever you purchase an 'E' series sedan, the very first thing you should do is have the radiator dismantled, flushed out and rebuilt. Do the thermo and coolant. They found almost a 1/4 of it full of casting sand, and apparently almost 100% of these "E" Falcons had it in the radiator from new. |
