well i changed the thermostat and flushed the cooling system bout a
month ago and it all worked well but occasionaly the engine temp gauge
creeps right up. last week it was almost hitting the red while idling in traffic on a hot day  the temp has even crept up after some spirited driving at nite whilst raining. im gettin my mechanic to look at my radiator next week but if you boys have any ideas what else it could be feel free to post!

thanks

Kezz

Dodgy thermostat, seen it heaps of times.

Get a new genuine one from ford, or drill a few small holes in that one.

Even flushing the cooling system wont garrantee removing all deposits from the radiator.
Take it to a radiator specialist, have them remove tanks and clean radiator core. Generally this will cost around $80-$100 .
Or replace the radiator if old with a new one for around $170-$200.

My ed did this to me when i put a ford thermostat in with new coolant.
The guy i sold it to said he was gonna fix it.
I suspect it was the radiator, and being 12 year old, it probably needed to be flushed or replaced.

it is only worth while cleaning the radiator if it isn't too old or if it has non-plastic side tabks, old plastic side tanks can get brittle over time.

My timing is advance alot, so she overheats alot is summer and stuck in traffic, i spent like 400buck on new everything tryin to keep the thing cool, and in the end, gave up and put the timing back. or take the grill out of your bonnet, it will make the difference.

far as i know the timing hasnt been advanced im running a set of advance headers if that makes any difference and its got a diff radiator with twin fans.
maybe its the s**t ford thermostat-no wonder so many of these cars have heating probs.
xplode what do you mean by taking the grill out?

if you're running thermo fans, when do they cut in according to your gauge?

I had my EA one inspected & cleaned 3 times over a number of years, never broke a tank once. The third time it was recommended that I replace the radiator.
Besides the plastic tanks are replaceable.

on our ef we got it cleaned and the tanks crumbled away in 6 months and we were quoted $150 to clean and put new tanks on.
i guess we probably just got unlucky.

Or maybe I was just lucky with the EA, as I was going to get my EL radiator cleaned and I snapped the top hose mount of the tank when removing it. I was quoted $115 to clean and replace the tank, I ended up buying a new radiator for $170
