Hey all!
Well i have a brand new water pump, fan belt, thermostat and coolant. I have also converted to thermo fans. The thermo fans are working and the engine is sitting just before the RED even at highway speeds. Now the odd thing i noticed was that when the car is idling, if i put the hose in the thermostat housing no water comes out of the water pump.... just overflows out of the thermostat housing but as soon as i turn the car off, water comes gushing out of the hose from the water pump?!? Is this normal behaviour, if not PLEASE dont tell me i have a blockage in the head somewhere?! |

seems normal.
water pump is pumping, so therefore what you try to put in that end... wants to be pushed around the engine to its escape hole the thermostat hosuing. Thermostat housing.. well your chucking 10deg.c water in that. so its gonna be closed isn't it. make sure the thermostat is working and in the correct way. I'd be looking at the fans/radiator.

sorry i should of said that the thermostat was taken out. And i had put the hose directly inside the thermostat housing.

Have you had radiator cleaned and tested?
Make sure thermostat is not in upside down. Belt tight? Head gasket or head corrosion? Hope not!!! |

Assuming your radiator isn't blocked - how hot are the top and lower hoses when the engine is at operating temp ??
Top should be pretty hot, lower should be considerably cooler. It's possible you have a vapour lock - did you bleed the system properly when you filled the coolant - filling coolant, putting the cap on, and away you go isn't the best: -Half fill the system with coolant mix, heater on full heat, -Run engine at 1500-2000 RPM (a cable tie between the throttle and idle screw is handy for this) -Leave cap off, very slowly add coolant mix till overflow fills up -keep running til engine temp increases (about 15-20 mins), top up if needed, put cap on.

May not help but the lower radiator hose could be collapsing (inner spring corroded) this may be restricting flow especially at higher revs.

You should not have removed the thermostat. The water will be now flowing to fast to be cooled!!!!.If you must remove it, just cut its guts out and put the shell back in.

By not using a thermostat ther will be a few problems.
1 Because there is no restriction the full pressure from the pump will happilly try to explode your radiator and push water out past recovery tank cap. Will also allow lower pressure in bottom hose allowing it to collapse. 2 E series thermostats actually operate two separate water circuits. One is the usual one and the other is a cct to facilitate fast warm up. No thermostat means this warm up cct can bypass the radiator and retain heat in motor. 3 In colder weather there will be no heat build up resulting in richer running, condensation (water) in oil, contaminants not burnt from oil. In short use the bloody thermostat!
