Ok I am looking at getting some extractors in the near future, Pacemakers, and after doing some searching on here I'm pretty sure that...

The competitions (PH4480) have more gains in the middle and top range, and standards (PH4499) are more low down, does this sound right?...

So for me, as all I will be doing is driving around town etc, as in no racing or anything like that, and am looking at a cam also somewhere in the near future, would the standards be more suited to me?

Any opinions would be great...

The 4480's are a much better set of pipes. Im not sure you would notice the difference down low, but you would notice it up high. If you dont mind spending the $, get the comps

I'll go the opposite to confuse ya!

I prefer the 4499's as:

1: Cheaper
2: A stock i6 aint really a 'high reving motor'
3: Most of your daily driving is within the 'low' rev range
4: Any headers are better than none in my opinion.
5: The 4499's don't have as bad 'drone' noise that I have heard with a lot of 4480's

I'm sure I'll get bagged for this!

The 4480's are tuned for the rpm range of the 4.0's, and i doubt you will feel/notice the difference at low rpm. Ive got advance extractors (VERY similar to 4499's) and it sounds exactly the same as other similar engines with 4480's.

Your right though, cheap extractors are better than none.

you have it the wrong way around.

the comps will have more power low-mid then the normal one will.

look at the design of the both.

the comps have smaller and on average longer primary pipes, along with the cylinder pairing that give the best pulse seperation.

that will help tame down the rough idle of larger cams and produce more torque lower.

the normal ones have shorter fatter pipes and will more the power up compared to the comps. if all you are doin is city drive and mild cam get the comps

The 4480's are tuned length - tuned for high rpm

The saloon car tuners I have spoken to say the 4480's are worth 5rwkw at peak over the 4499's.

no. just because it's tuned doen't mean it has to be for high rpm

simple rules of header design my friend.

and those people you spoke to did they mention the greater then the 5kw you get in the lower revs??

a week ago, i was at an exhaust place that work uses and i was speaking to the manager of the joint and if a customer comes in asking for extractors or full exhaust system, the headers/extractors he puts on are pacemaker comps (not the cheaps ones but not the one that needs chip mods and stuff but the medium range ones) if customer does ask for the standard ones he puts on but for that little bit extra cash its totally worth the comps put on

it doesn't realy make that much of a difference. you never drive full throttle to 2500rpm around the city. you drive part throttle,

He said 5kw everywhere, but I personally think not much difference to the 4499's down low. Many think that the 4480's will be a dog compared to 4499's at low rpm, which is I think the point your arguing against? If so I agree - as I said in my above posts I doubt anyone will notice any power loss with the 4480's compared to the 4499's (and your saying there will be a gain). The 4480 though is designed for track use though and I doubt the smaller primaries are put there for low end gain, more for the reason that 1.5" primaries are a better size for a 4.0 I6 than 1-5/8" (and there are other other significant differences in the design aside from the primary pipe diameter). I dont think its small enough to restrict at high rpm on anything less than a massively worked engine so I doubt the 4499's will ever show more peak power than the 4480's.

cool, not many people run both types on the same engine so it will be good to see the actual difference.
