what extractors would be better for a pretty stock ef falcon inline 6?

the pacemaker 4499's
or the 4480's?

Everyone's going to say the bottom ones, 4480's

I'm going to say EITHER.

Budget build, go the 4499's you'll notice tone and power.
If you want to be a hero and have 4480's on a completely stock engine, go for it.

apparently the 4480's are better for low range torque and the 4499's for upper revving.
we all know these 6s don't like the rev's so concentrate on the bottom end.

I've used both types, and in my car I have 4499's and love them.

^^^ like he said :) I have 4499's, fitted recently. Only done 160 k's so far but ...WOW what a difference. BUT i have never had 4480's :( so cant give you a real comparison. But you wont regret fitting them :D . 4499's are mad :twisted: ( oh and i have 2.5" high flow cat and 2.5" cat back)

Give pacemaker a call, they will tell you the 4480's will have more power an torque over the whole rev range

ive been given these prices from performance exhaust in lilydale

4499: $400
4480:$470

would it be worth spending the extra $70 and going with the 4480's?

For $70 i would.

Last time i priced extractors was $350 for std, and around $480 for comp.

Ive had both the 4499's, and i currently have the 4480's.
The 4499's are interference type extractors, they should make a small power increase over a wide rev range
The 4480's are tuned length type, meaning they will increase power and torque more, but over a narrow rev band, which is usually higher in the rev range. The length of the pipes will affect the rev range it works at, the longer the pipes, the higher the rev range

The 4480's i have on my EL XR6, which is going to get a big cam, so therefore will need revs so the 4480's were a better choice.
For a stock engine, i would go the 4499's, for everyday driving they are great!! good torque spread and they sound awesome

for fuel economy the 4499's are a little better as the 4480's peak higher in the band.

if thats not an issue, and your looking a largish cam, go the 4480's

it's the opposite, the shorter the pipe the higher up the revs it goes.
pipe diameter also plays a big part.

I just thought about it and you are right, the pulses would be closer together at high revs, so the pipes would have to join closer to the block to make use of the tuned length. This link is great, plus its applied to Frank the EF if you read on, so its pretty relevant here

You can make tuned length headers for higher rpm with longer primaries if you want...but I won't fill this thread with that.

On a stock engine you won't notice much difference between the two, but if you intend to do other mods (headwork/cam) then I would go the 4480s.

Those pulses change with different cam profiles too.....as well as changes in C.R.'s....or, if running a supercharger.
