So basically i have a Ford Falcon 99 AU with a new cat-back system.
Im thinking about upgrading the headers to either the PH 4480 or PH 4499. Im not really looking for power, but more for the exhaust note. Does anyone have any ideas on the differences between the two headers apart from the $100 price gap? Which header would have the deeper exhaust note? Thanks!!! |

I don't think you will notice a considerable difference between either headers in regards to exhaust note.
PH4480 are considered "competition" headers which give more top end power while PH4499 give lower end power. So 4499 would technically be better for everyday driving. The price difference is probably because the 4480 has tuned length fabrication (all cylinders have close to same length of pipe work) compared to the 4499.

Hmm ok so the PH 4499 would probably be the way to go in my case.
Quick search on ebay shows ill be looking at around $420 for a new one. The only thing i hate about installing these is that you have to cut and weld part of the pipe to make them fit. Probably a job for the exhaust guy. Anyone found any cheaper ones on the internet? (preferably new) Thanks!!! |

(preferably new) Thanks!!! You don't cut the headers, you modify the catalytic convert to fit. It is much quicker and easier for an exhaust shop to do it for you. They will probably charge you $50-100 depend what needs doing. If you can buy it from an exhaust shop and get it fitted at the same time, they might be able to cut down the price and you get warranty.

Labour to fit it all up maybe another $100-200 (depending on labour rates). So it's not too far off the mark.

Same. IMHO the tuned length 4480's give a much crisper note, than other brands that are not tuned. A lot of things come together to make the note as I understand it, but given the choice I'd take the 4480's everytime. I know i did. With the 200 cpsi cat and off the shelf 2.5 with one muffler it sounds nice an growly down low increasing to a clean 6 cylinder wail at top end.
