evening.
I've got some VHT black engine enamel paint (up to 550F) and am wondering if i Paint my silver PWR oil cooler, will it effect its cooling performance in anyway? I've read that it should be ok and wont inhibit its cooling performance BUT if you use the super heat paint than you Will run into problems. can anyone back this up or confirm.. The silver sticks out like a sore thumb in front of the a/c condensor and now highlights my (previously hidden) black CAI right next door. cheers |

I'd imagine if you thickened up the cooling veins too much it would restrict airflow and lead to heat retention.. if you kept the paint nice and thin I doubt there would be any adverse effects....

Matt black is one of the best heat dissipater around. not only it soaks up heat fast from the source, it also cools it faster when expose to cooler surrounding. theres no heat built up as its constantly loosing it.
you'll probably notice most race cars engines {NASCAR} were painted black, including the oil sump. well they try and maintain as much HP as possible without losing it to heat. hope that helps.

The paint will be fine unless you give it several coats. Look at radiators after they are reco'd. All painted and work fine.

light coat spray is the go. the idea is to spray it in a way that makes the finish feel a***. it'll look dull.
