I dont know if the earlier posts had the same problem as me but heres another go.
My parents EL (Im glad its not my EF) Revs dont always stay at the correct rate. Sitting at lights they might sometimes drop slowly and eventually turn off unless you tap the accelerator so that they can go back to 750rpm or what ever the norm is. Its like im edging the guy next to me to drag. The Revs start dropping then i tap the accelerator and the car slightly launchs unless im pressing firmly on the break with the other foot. Sometimes i start it and no problem it revs prefectly. Then other times it doesnt want to stay on, i have to keep my foot on the accelerator so that the car doesnt turn off. Ive heard that it might be the ISC? (Idle Speed Control) But ive only heard that off 1 person so far. This mechanic told me to 'teach' the car to stay at the correct revs, which i have been doing the past 2 months... not working... i heard this is a problem on the EL's can anyone help me with this if you have fixed it? my parents want to keep the car coz its only 7 years old but this is really annoying

firstly start by cleaning the ISC.. its easy and that willl eliminate one thing, does it do it all the time?
clean or replace airfilter, whats the fuel filter condition, fuel pump noisy? clean throttle body? reset ecu? |

I wouldnt worry about cleaning the ISC probably just replace it. The motor tends to wear out not the dirt inside the housing stopping it from moving.
I changed one the other day on mates car and I cleaned it first but it was still stuffed because the motor was buggered. Get a new one. |

first thing to do is clean the throttle body, and than reset the ECU. The correct method for idle learning is
1. Idle no air in Park for 2min 2. Idle with a/c in park for 2 min 3. Idle in gear foot on brake A/C OFF for 2 min 4. idle in gear with A/C on for 2 min 2 minutes of each condition is the ECU learn time... |

what does it take to reset the ECU?
is that something i need a mechanic to do or can i do it? i think we had this done a couple of months ago but then a month later went back to the same thing... so would it be safer to get a new ISC, clean the throttle body and then reset and teach the ECU?

resetting the ecu is easy to do yourself, just dis connect the battery go get a cup of coffee, and after some time, i gave mine a few hours, (watched a movie). then plug back in and do the process thatxcpression suggests. ^^^ two posts up.
hope that is helpfull. |

I'm having exactly the same problem with my AU Series 3 SR.. But 1 addition to the problems.. The car is cutting out underload when there is under half a tank of petrol in there (Never seems to happen when there is more than half)

mine did this too till one day it stalled. turns out my coil when hot was shorting and not prroviding a healthy spark. needed coil and tfi module (thats what i paid for who knows what the dodgy mechanic did) its been ok ever since though
