hey all
captain indecisive has made (finally) a decision! the head on the tickford engine will be cleaned up, and the entire engine will be dropped into my car. i realise there are a few head-related threads but i'm looking for some specific answers without hijacking someone elses thread! so far the list includes: -vernier gear -surecam (street warrior) -new head gasket & bolts -new valve springs (heavy-duty ones) so questions are -should i go AU or ACL race gasket -just the crow valve springs? what $$$? -what other timing-related issues should i be wary of and/or changing, and what $$$? cheers!

get the AU head gaskets - I say that as someone whose just fitted the ACL Race Series headgasket! The race series head gasket is just a fancy looking normal ACL head gasket (I can't see any difference besides colour and it says Race Series on it - which you can't see once the heads on lol).
Personally I'm anti-Crow (due to them f**k us around when we were doing the Valiant) so I'd look at other valve springs. As for timing related matters only think that springs to mind is the timing chain tensioner as that's what gave me trouble! |

uglybob, the head bolts won't make of break it, just get them from a decent source/brand. Nason I think also do them and there good.
When I was quoted on genuine AU head gasket they said $80.00ish. |

cool! new timing chain. DIY: some basic porting work maybe. get rid of all the casting bumps, marks & ridges on the port floors. smooth out the sharp edges around the valve guide bosses. port match intake port with the BBM. send it in to the pros to finish it of with a multi angle valve job & abit of tidying up. theres a savings of $400 to $700 which you could put towards other things.
