****EDITED 15-8-06****
NOW ADDED AS AN ATTACHMENT.

Just been updated. Changed a few settings.
Now have added in a "rebate" section where you can add in the new Govt rebate for LPG installs. Makes a difference, believe you me!

Hi folks.

I'm currently working on an excel spreadsheet to calculate the offset cost for LPG, (how long it takes to pay off before its saving you petrol $$$)

With Petrol >$1 and looking like it aint coming down, I'm considering at a future point, to go for a straight gas setup.

2 questions.. and for SYDNEY only.

1. A reputable Gas setup shop located in Sydney (no shonks)
2. A reputable Gas mechanic that knows how to tune an LPG setup correctly (no drongos)
3. A rough enstimate on how much a straight gas setup would be to install (go to whoa... no stuffing around.. drive in petrol, drive out gas) For the spreadsheet.

I'll get it posted sticky when I've finished and tested the calculations[/list]

3. Call .. well, you know who :)

Did you remember to factor in the govt removing the tax breaks on LPG?It's going to incur a 12.5c/L excise by 2008. It's still be cheaper than petrol but it'll mean your conversion will take longer to pay for itself.

Which means the quicker you put it in, the better the savings :-D

The fields will be customisable, so you can manipluate the Petrol and Gas prices per litre, as well as how much you use. Its ver customisable.

Also, our local oil fields, (in this part of the world) produce lighter oil. Which means more LP Gas locally, which helps make it cheaper and the price more stable.

That depends. If you're not doing enough driving to make an LPG conversion pay for itself in a reasonable space of time now it's only going to get worse value as the excise gets phased in.

We have an absolute buttload (no pun intended!) of the stuff in the North-West Shelf but what do we do with it? Sell it to places like Japan at 5c a litre

I believe the tax increase comes in at 2011 now instead of 2008

heh, if that's true then that would be the opposite of what I'd expect to happen from this money-hungry Liberal government. I'd have expected them to push the date forward so as to trap people flocking to LPG in the wake of increasing petrol prices.

*Sigh* I didn't want to start a Gas v petrol debate ;-)

The way this spreadsheet is designed is to allow you to calculate how long, (based on local petrol and Gas prices, how many K's you do, how hard you drive the car and the price of an install) it will take for the cost savings to kick in for an LPG install.

If it takes until 2011 for the savings to kick in then its most likely not worth it. :P

BUT the point is that its up to you!

If I didn't keep getting popups saying there is a reply to my posts it would be quicker! lol

I'm just working out the equations and checking to make sure the data is being calculated correctly. Don't want any dud results!
