Seems to be as much of a bastardised engine as the EL hybrid with bits and pieces of both models.
I think these engines were mainly found in the XG/XH models of the time. Where everything was pretty much EF except for the intake.
I've been suspecting for some time that the XH ECU is simply an EL ECU, as a BBM vacuum solenoid will operate as per an EL (haven't tested the >3800RPM bit though), when it's hooked up. Makes a BBM transplant begging as it's the only thing that needs to be installed possibly(apart from the airbox and ducting). Although it's been well documented that the spark maps should be different BBM to non BBM, I suspect the XH spark maps are std EL.
Put that to the test soon . . . .

The ecu will always be tuned for the manifold it comes from the factory with.

Well i can say for sure that the EB2 crank has 8 counter weights.
I have seen it with my own eyes.
and most definatly IS NOT the same as an XF crank!!!!!!!!!!

and the EF for sure has 12

You would think so. I'll have an opportunity to run the XH ECU in my EL and vice versa soon, theoretically I'd suspect a power and torque drop at lower revs for both.
As I say, I can't explain why a VSV works on my XH ECU - particularly when the ECU is original to the vehicle.
