I know they wouldnt touch the ultimate with E as a lot of people would stop using it. Wasn't aware that the reg stuff had e10. i'll pay a bit better attention next time. You dont think it was the std Premium they sell that contained it?

I'd change to BP Ultimate, and if it still pings then take some timing out of it. if you had too even drop 10 degrees in your thermostat to let the motor run cooler, Fuel coolers are available. but i'd be more inclined to dodgy ruel or too much timing.

Assuming BP runs the same across Australia, here regular unleaded is e10 (which is marked) but premium and ultimate aren't. I used to run across some BP's that had normal unmolested unleaded, but haven't come across any recently, so not sure if it is/has been phased out.

Hey guys,

This was tuned by myself (custom pre-programmed chip), however I wasn't told it had a high comp motor at the time, so the timing maps may be a little aggressive given the application.

I've told Dom to look into the thermostat, plugs and fuel quality, but if he has issues will sort out the timing free of charge.

Stay tuned!

I only use BP fuel here. Either Ultimate or preminum.....as for the E10 & regular ULP, they are marked as such here, but they have the same green handles ( not marked ), but the bowsers are.
As you know, Ultimate has the blue handle, Premium has the yellow handle, and Diesel is black.

What was used to tune the car? Chip, piggy back or have you done the au ecu convo and used a flash tuner? Sound like it needs a few degrees of timing out of it.

I think the answer is maybe in the tune also but i do think that the quality of caltex fuel has gone down hill in the last few months.
I normally run caltex 98 and tune my car on a very hot day to allow for pinging, and i seem to be pulling more timing out of my v8 and i can only put it down to fuel quality.
Anyone else having issues on caltex 98?
I went from bp to caltex for the cheaper price and it ran better and got better economy, may have to go back now im having issues

Notwithstanding, the tune in the chip. Maybe you you change some or all of your sensors, given that they play a big part in what the ECU does...........

FWIW, i have used Caltex 98, and haven't had any probs. I did notice a slightly better economy with the BP Ultimate....

Cheers
