ACL make all the pistons for the I6,(and used to for the V6 c/dore, not to sure about now) they recently sold their aftermarket division to Mahle, which have shut down operations in AU and moving everything to the USA.
Im running ACL race in my AU engine and betwen decking the block and shaving the head have 11.3:1 comp. The BA and AU share the same big end bearings. The BA piston will sit 0.003" lower in the bore, and with the 12cc dish will drop comp with a AU motor. You will need the BA rods as well as they have different pins to hold the piston to the rod

MICKYYYY wrote: Can that BA piston be used in a AU engine with AU rods at all??? Heaps of compression which is great for LPG I bought those pistons about 3 years ago, I had to wait for Ford to make them, 6 mths later I finally get them. I've got to machine valve reliefs in them to suit the 2 valve head. I'm currently working on making a jig to hold the pistons at the right angle to machine them. I bought 6 of them, cost me $660. They do not come with rings, just the gudgeon pin. I'm fitting them to an EL block, with AUII conrods, and using an EF cyl head.

It indicates that the 1.00mm oversize piston for the AU intech engine is no longer available but the 0.50mm still is according to the ACL website. Both have 10.2 compression which is not bad but wouldnt mind a little more if ecu will be ok with it???

New chain guides etc fitted at the same time and so far no rattles

So did you have the standard AU engine in your car before you rebuilt it to the current spec's???
If so what was the power and torque difference??? Was it more responsive and snappy???

Was it more responsive and snappy??? with extractors and exhaust made 117kw, with new motor, ported head, CMS stg 3 cam 140kw. Motor is coming back out as the ring havent bedded in properly and its using oil, another head is being prep'ed as I still running the AU valves and want a more reliable combo ie changing form multi collet groove to single collet. And while where there another cam(specs still undecided as will be doing an edit further down the track) to suit the VCT will go in. This time will try and run on petrol for at least 5000 klms to help the rings bed in. Once its in and running better then time for an edit. Am eventually hoping for 170-180kw.

So if you didnt have the ported head and cam there wouldnt be to much difference in power???
Why didnt the rings bed in properly???

rings didnt bed in properly as I ran it on LPG from word go. Gas is a dry fuel and rings dont like it too much, for bedding in.
RE power not sure what it would of been with the standard cam etc.

Im very curious as well as if i were to do this i would be running LPG and im also not convinced that LPG didnt help bed the rings in.
Maybe need a different ring???

It is as the comp is good, it is a known problem with straight gas applications what rings did u run in it? ACL race series that come with the pistons, I had a long chat with my local ACL rep about the engine and am going to be running ACL race rings to suit a LPG 202, the biggest advantage of these over the AU ones are the oil ring is bigger. There has been a trend in recent years to use smaller rings to reduce friction and improve emissions, these leads to engines "using" more oil. So hopefully going to a wider oil ring will help elimate this, plus running it in on petrol. I dont think the small oil rings like being reved, the last 2 engines had devolped oil problems and in both cases it was oil wash on top of the pistons. Ever since I put a maunal in and rev the ring of it..ie 7ooorpm Ive had oil problems. The engien has been built to cope with this punishment and is another reason why i want to upgrade the head.
