How far has your coolant level gone down? If you can't be bothered to check it, then book it in somewhere tomorrow. No point in driving it and then accidently getting her hot.

Chuck a can of bars leaks down the bottle and cross your fingers. If its running down the bell housing its going to be one of 4 things. a) the metal crossover pipe which goes around the back of the head from the water pump to the thermostat housing has a hole in it, b) headgasket has let go c) possible crack in head or block (unlikely) or d) a welch plug has gone, however I think the plug on the back of the block is too low to allow water to drain onto the top of the bell housing... It wont be the heater tap, that isnt anywhere near the bellhousing on any e series ford that I know of, nor would it be a hose as they are under the inlet manifold mostly. Is the carpet wet inside the car?? Im thinking one last remote possibility is a split heater core dropping water through a hole on the fire wall to the engine bay side but thats as remote as my chances of being king of england with a harem of 500000000 18 yo virgin brides.
edit, check the hoses to the gas converter, they use hot water from the engine to convert the liquified petrolleum gas to gas. |

My car was leaking a small amount of cooant onto the trans fro. The head gasket.
Drained the coolant. Put a bottle of metal seal or something it was called. From autobahn. Fill with water. Let it idle for as long as possible. The longer the better. Then I drained the water. Flushed the system with a little water and filled up with coolant. Not leaking at all anymore. |

get a torch and a little mirror on a stick and hope like hell its not the head-gasket.
same prob with my xg, expt it has done the gasket, still idles fine, drives fine, not mixing oil and water or anything, just goes thru about a liter of water per 200 kay. lol

I wouldnt be worried about a buggered head gasket, thats a $50 weekend job that takes all of 3 hours work. Id be more worried about a cracked head. I had to replace the head on my old Mitsi triton 4bee and not a wrecker in the land had a head for one, so that made it a $700 proposition to replace. Mind you 4.0 heads are a dime a dozen at the wrecker (if theyll let you seperate it from the motor) but its still a gamble cos you dont know what your buying.

So you used to be a mechanic.
And you're 20. Trade cert? How much water does it use a day and how far do you drive. |
