OK so yesterday i drive to narre warrem and back (250kms in total)
and when i got to the traffic lights around the corner from my house my mont strting running real rough at idle idling up and down like shes was running on 5 cylnders. if i reved to 1500 it was fine just rough at idle up to 1500. then when i got to my nans i turned her off and noticed what looked like a whole heap of steam coming from exhaust but it smelt like petrol. even though the enigne was off. then when i tried to lick her over it took a while like the battery was flat . then the coollant light came on. so i let it sit over night this morning checked the over fill she was bone dry. so i put about half a litre of coolant in as thats who i had left. i kicked her over again taking a while like the battery was flat but when she kicked over she was running really rough again up to about 2000rpm this time and coolant light came on again but i knew there was a bit of collant in there so i contuined driving around the corner to the mechanic again it was pissing out a lot of what looked like steam out of exhaust i should also add that my mont has never over heated. What do you guys think? please help as i am quite worried about what it might be ? |

cracked head or blown head gasget, also just because you put a litre of coolant in doesnt mean its ok to drive, the lights on for a reason, thats how a blown head gasget can turn into a rooted motor

well the motor is a controled explosion of flamable liquid so if you throw some water in the mix, doesnt need to be alot, it will effect the way the car runs

yes the running rough is the coolant entering the cyl causing poor or no combustion
cost?? anywhere from $500 to $1000, depending on damage and the mechanic doing the job.. |

well first you need to take the head off and see if its cracked or if its just the gasget has blown out then youd be best to get the head shaved flat again, so you might be without a car for a few days

yes but if your not really going to do anything decent to the car in performance mods its not really worth it to use an xr6 head
