has anyone ever tried a pod filter directly fitted to the throttle body???? with a hole in the bonnet and sum sort of wheather shielded scoop and shielded from engine bay heat????

i seen it on something. Might have been a EL GT or a XA/XB.
Thet just had the pod on the tb and a sice scoop and the scoop housed the pod.

yes, i saw it on an ef with nearly as many kays as mine. its a white 5 speed, made a fair amount of power, but way way illegal. I have also seen an el xr6 with a shaker, that would most likely be more legal then having a large filter hanging out of the top. haha.
the guy did say the pod made a big difference but he kept getting into trouble with the jacks.

im actually thinking of a setup simialr to this. pod just about straight on throttle body in a enclosure using the bonnet as the lid kind thing with a cutout in bonnet with mesh to let air straight in. Talk about cold air induction. Dunno how legal it will be but???

I dont see the point in it myself.
It will be illegal, it will reduce torque, I doubt it will lower air temps all that much (air is flowing over a warm bonnet), and it doesnt suit the EF/EL shape.

well it must work for the ef the guys name is shannon and he is on here somewhere lol 143.8rw kilowatts. which is pretty good eh. hopefully he comes on here and tells us. but i wouldnt do it!

ROFL - Yes I am sure it only has 143.8rwkw because of the pod. And yes I do know the car. BTW: My EF made 146rwkw on 2 dyno's with stock intake.

you know there is SFA difference.
I've dyno'd with my full intake on, and with no intake and there was nothing in it. p.s. i run stock EF intake, with a K&N 3.5" pod, and a "slightly" modified airbox. p.p.s what would you do if it rained? |

yeah you should have seen all the s**t in his pod, full of bugs and s**t. not my type of mod. i just got a panel k&n filter and everything else is stock as, duel fuel too, ran 117.7 at the treads, with a crook runnin ecu * rectified now hope it goes better

I had the same idea and got smiley to do a photoshop of a scoop on the EL...it looked tacky and kind of out of place. The scoop I chose was the one they have on the Territory Turbos. If you can make your own scoop that is more discreet (sp?) then you might be able to do it.
btw stockstandard...how do you lose torque with that set up? I know throttle response would improve. Sorry I am not very wise in the mechanics department. phong =P~

There is a reason why the air intake pipes are there instead of a bolt on pod to the filter. A: R&D was done with maximising air flow and pressure. Hence why SS inductions sell the big mouth kit. The original and aftermarket pipes from JMM and others are designed to give maximum flow/performance with as much cold air as poss. Bolting on a POD to the TB will just suck hot air is not designed for tuned air flow and is not insulated.

phong =P~ It is a bit complex. Very generally speaking, the longer the intake pipe, the more speed and inertia the incoming air has, which can have a whole lot of good side effects in the engine. More velocity can create more turbulence which helps the air/fuel mix and more inertia increases the effects of resonance. On the down side, it doesn't flow as much so eventually if you rev the engine hard enough it will restrict power. Once again, this is all speaking generally and there are lots of variables. I found this graph showing the effects of changing intake pipe length on a smaller engine: Notice as the pipe gets longer, you lose top end but gain some mid range, and that the shortest pipe is the worst of all.
