Yeah Pods are generally more noise than power. Go with a K & N Panel filter, part No: 33-2015 for EF & EL's. Combined with and make sure it is a "TICKFORD AU3 XR8" Air intake Snorkel form your Ford Dealer.

I'm running a KN pod with a mandrel bent 3 " intake pipe. I'f got the XR snorkel too blowing air onto the pod now but its still out in the open. It still helps and the car breathes better. But, after exams I'm gonna modify the top of the ford box to have it enclosed and I think that will help a lot. (also prevents the cops from spotting it.

Why not run the best of both? Pod filter with cold air.
I have a pod that lives in the front gaurd and plumbing runs down where airbox used to be. Pod gets lots of lovel cold air from the *ahem* "brake duct" in the front bar. Lol, dunno how cold the intake is after compression tho....

I found my ea went HEAPS better with the standard airbox, standard filter and intake then it did with a pod. Now i just got a temporary cai made out of airconditioning piping and still running the stock filter. Made a little difference in high rpms and smoother through revs.
Heres a pic

Here's what I knocked up one afternoon...
Its a pod in a cut up and semi-sealed standard air box fed from the standard inlet and a 4in pipe under it. The 4in pipe runs under the guard and to a opening in the bottom of the spoiler. This works amazingly well as Ive tried a few diferent pods/cold air setups, this is the best so far. If I could be bothered I'd remake the sides from alloy and fully seal it. I also tried mounting the pod on the end of a 3in madrel pipe mounted in the front spoiler but for some reason didn't work much better than stock. I wanted a stock looking setup and the only drawback is the extra induction noise... I like quiet street cars yeah, I know its dodgy, but its only temparary http://www.pbase.com/image/36402976 http://www.pbase.com/image/36405375 |

Just don't hit any flood water at high rpm's! Water don't compress good. Great simple setup though!

Yeah, I think maybe corrigated flexable pipe would be good to catch water from spray up.

Ya i was thinking same, where u have the intake at front spoiler u would get heaps pressure, but with wet roads its going to get water up in the pipes maybe in the engine. Hows it go in the wet?

Aaron, rain hasnt being a prob yet, Ive had a few cars with similar intakes and never had a drama. I accually drove one of my cars up to QLD in the pooring rain and I dunno if I was imagining it or not, but it felt stronger on the freeway... maybe it was getting a little "water injection" effect.
Spider, I didnt have the cold air and panel filter set up together so I cant tell, but I think a K&N panel filter would work well with the extra cold air feed. One thing I noticed tonight on the freeway was the air/fuel ratio has changed alot. In the few months Ive had the autometer A/F gauge in the car Ive never seen it sit in the "stoich" part of the dial, its allways been very rich. But tonight, it was sitting just on the last LED of stoich. So the ram effect definatly improves performance |
