Anyone have much of an idea about what gets you more power, pod air filter or cold air intakes? Cold air intakes seem to be so much more expensive but look alot, very much alot like standard intake for most models. I have el fairmont and am about to buy cold air intake but hard to see the value in paying 250 bucks for 2 pieces of plastic.

unless you seal a pod up properly they jsut suck hot air with most lame setups people do.

cold air induction is the way to go, you can do it yourself quite easily. what did you exactly wanna do?

I agree with fuzion.CAI is a lot better because cold air is denser than warm air.So if you draw cold air into your motor ,it equates to more air being drawn in.Easiest thing to do is put an AU XR8 intake snorkel on.Its a fair bit bigger than the one on the EL.

Yeah I am quite happy with the "CAI" of the AU XR8 snorkel, but it is nowhere near close to a complete CAI setup. Although a bigger snorkel has to be a good thing. A lot of people combine the AU XR8 snorkel with a K&N panel filter (~$100 IIRC) and they reckon that it does make another improvement, but yeah, CAI is the way to go I think.

It all matters on set up like fuzion said if it is a bad set up then it won't draw cold air but the exact opposite. Unless you you box it up then a pod is a bad idea.
 An AU XR scoop and K&N air filter (panel) should be a good start.

Aaron--------CAI=Cold Air Induction. The AU snorkel fits in the air box where the original one goes.Maybe you gotta drill 2 new holes to attach it on the top.Think they are $30-$40 from ford dealers :?:

So you think an Au snorkel is the best way to go? I want something that will really make a difference.

If you want to make a difference do something else. Catback 2.5" exhaust, extractors at least. CAI and all these intake mods are a total wank on a stock Fairmont. Better off buying tickford badges they will make it go faster than some overpriced plastic.

with the AU snorkel does the radiator hose have to be removed or does it fit easlly into the existing fixture.

I've seen a few painted, what type of paint to people recommend?

Im thinking bout going for a 3inch madrel bent pipe to the exixsting airbox wih a pod filter mounted inside auIII xr8 snorkel and a sequential bonnet scoop that blows cold air striaght onto the air box with a hole cut in the top with a seal round it so it takes all the air it can get!!! then at least i no that will be as much as i can do to get as much cold air as possible in there

I actually have my pod inside my std airbox on the AU, that way I can have the pos and the intake pipe if I want. It also gets fed lots of cool fresh air and doesnt suck in the hot engine air.
