go for flat panel filters.
pod filter is normally only useful for high powered engines. I have been told that putting a pod on a fairly standard motor will actually do more damage to power than good.

What ever you get go for quality, ie K&N. Most cheap $30 - $40 pod filters are crap. I fitted a K&N RX 4730 pod in the air box and i'm happy with that. People who have fitted K&N panell filters also happy with them, your choice really.

Set-up correctly, a pod filter should be making more power.
However the gains are so minimal, that anyone that claims they can actually notice a difference in acceleration is either full of s**t, or they are very very sensitive... |

gains with like pods and exhaust setups and all that s**t (not including turbos) add only like 15%to30% increase in power over all is not that much!!

i havent seen any cold hard facts saying one is better than the other..
i think it all comes down to personal preference, unless of course your using a high powered vehicle. my preference is flat panels, easier to fit, keep the original look, and inside an airbox... physics in my head anyway, conclude there would be more airflow.. outside the airbox, ie behind lights etc, the pod would be better....thats what i think anyway.. but in the end, it all comes down to what you like and what you want, i doubt you'll notice the difference, unless your one of those pedantic and meticulous like the princess and the pea. my 2c

My pod makes a cool noise, almost sounds like a blow off valve

in my daewoo (yeah i know, but shes cheap to run) i put a pod filter - sounds sexi. feels like its got a bit more urge - but that could be more from the sound it makes when i put my foot down (to get that hampster really moving)... id say, if its sheilded from engine heat, it cant hurt too badly power / performance - and have ti in a good location to get cold air (inside airbox etc) *gets back in box*

pod or filter 50/50 realy just make sure if you have a pod filter it is either in the stoch air box or it is protected from the heat of the engine bay as much as posible.... warm/hot air = slight loss of power... hot air =less dence=less bang... cold air=more dence=more bang
