Hey guys, today i ran my ghia at the track, and for some reason i ran slower then when it was stock-er?.
basicially exhaust and intake and auto = 15.4 exhaust, intake, cam, and manual =15.6 best time??? what is going on, i though i would of cracked the 14's forsure, and for some reason i still think it pulls way harder then before.. one thing that i think might of slowed me down is the 19" rims or maybe its just the t5 hmm back to auto? also think it might need a big tune because of the cam? should also note this car pulled 147.9 rwkw with the auto.. |

yeah.. probably needs a tune.. /dial the cam in.. with those mods a mid to high 14 is not out of the question...didnt sound like you were missing gears tonight.. the 19's wouldnt help... i run 0.4 better downgrading from 20's to 17's.. on my BF XRT..

Throw it on the dyno again if possible
Do you have your 60ft times? The car will be quicker with the manual in it, providing you can drive it. |

are you getting more wheelspin with the manual maybe??i ran at the bairnsdale drag strip 1/8th and was faster with a 3.08 single spinner than with 3.9 lsd, simply due to traction

Take the 19's off and put on 15's with 60 series tyres let down to 15-18psi, you'll get sidewall flex and more traction. there is no sidewall flex with the 19's.

id say driver skill is lacking, as it should be good for a high 14 at least
i remember once i ran a 15.2 with horrible axle tramp, then the next run was 16.2 even though both runs felt exactly the same. Youd be surprised how inconsistant times can be |

Smaller rears with lower pressure and learning how to launch right in the manual; it will take a few passes before you really start getting the feel for how to launch as obviously it is a lot different to the street, particularly if you get a decent set of 15's or 16's on it.
As for the tune, what cam are you running? Generally with any cam the car will benefit from a tune to suit, but as long as it isn't too big I didn't think it would rob you of much.

Lowering your tyre pressure does not give you more traction.
Common misconception, its all about the weight on the tyres. To a point weight is bad, removing too much is bad for traction. So ive read from http://www.autospeed.com Search tyre pressures, its all very good info there!

Auto + hi stall + forced induction = winner
http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_108915/article.html "So you think that your wider tyres put more rubber on the road? Wrong! Or maybe that wider tyres have increased grip because of their larger contact area? Wrong again!" Provides a great explanation and an insight everyone who drives needs to know about car tyres! Read it like 5 times, its a lot to take in but worth it! Common misconception, i believed it before i read the article too, cos it made sense that it would

Lowering tyre pressures allows more sidewall flex to a point; sidewall flex is very important for traction when doing quarter miles.
Obviously once you put a corner in there you generally want minimal sidewall flex. In events such as drifting where there is huge lateral movement of the car, you want absolutely tiny mounts (respectively), hence why tyres are stretched to fit the car. Autospeed has good articles, but as with anything on the internet don't take everything they say as gospel.

Enough said? (Now im not having a go at you, that article is not particularly interesting) but its points are valid and true.
Think of them as a kinda of myth busters but for cars, they sort the truth from the s**t and they deserve respect for it.

I wasn't having a go either, just speaking from what I have found. Using 16's over 18's was about 0.1-.2 quicker over a quarter, and I felt dropping the pressure to around 25psi in the rears on 16's got me a better lock up on take off. Again it was only marginally faster, but my quarter driving was a bit over the shop and difficult to compare..

Oh 25psi is perfect, your rim diameter is effectively changing your gear ratios, those two points are correct and neither was i having a go, i just really think its important that people read the info from that site as its absolutely first class
