Below guys is a picture of my cluster and where the engine temp currently sits when the engine is at normal running temp. Now the yellow arrow is where it sat BEFORE I flushed my radiator (as per Gregory's instructions) and refilled the system (ditto).
Also my idle is not as smooth as it was beforehand. I did pull the plug on the crank sensor while everything was out (battery included), but didn't do anything to it, so I'm clueless as to why idle isn't as good (it's very minor though). Anyway, is that operating temp okay (picture doesn't do it justice, arrow is about 1/4 up the normal bar in reality) for the car?

That operating temp for the car is fine. Did you replace your thermostat cause if so its opening at a higher temp and thats why its sitting there. Mine always site between the A and L on NORMAL. some times up to the M or R. But as long as its in the bracket its fine

Ah, well that's a relief. And yeah, replaced thermostat with Ford one. Was actually different to the one in there before (more fancy looking Made in England was in there).

The operating temp's probably healthier now than was before. Especially as it gets into the colder months now.

Have you still got the old thermostat? If so see if there is a temp marked on it. Looks like it was a cooler one.
I agree the current temp looks fine to me, in fact mine sits slightly higher, on the top edge of the 'A'

All good news, I'll check on the old thermostat. Why do you think my idle isn't as smooth now though? Though it is still quite smooth, just not AS smooth as it was.

the rough idle is probably caused by the computer re-learning, should settle down in a week or two.

if you disconnected the batery for over 20min or so, it will idle crap for a bit.

Guys the old thermostat read 92 degrees celsius, would that explain the higher engine temp.? (I don't know what the Ford ones are)

UPDATE: I can see where the coolant has been seeping a tiny amount at the thermostat guys, both the back and front of it. What have I done wrong? I did not put vaseline on the o-ring if that means anything?

just smear some geasket goo on the thermostat housing mating surface, paper thin smear.
its just the housing showing its age, pretty common.
