Hey guys, ill list the problem and then ask a few questions:
Ive not got my service manual here, plz help me out :)

Car died whilst driving, ignition died, no spark reports the racv man.
Towed home, i had the same problem 2months ago, i had to replace the tfi module, no 'paste' was used.
Since then ive done 3-4,000km's without any problems.

Battery is on the charger now, ill hook it back up in the morning and proceed checking the following:
(as taken from http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60402&highlight=dizzy):

"2. As suggested a common problem is the TFI module
and / or the Hall Effect Unit in the dizzy. Especially apparent
when hot. Cannot comment on the replacement dizzy - it may
have been on its way out as well. Or see point 3.

3.na
4. The lead from the coil to dizzy in good condition ??

5. If getting a strong spark at the end of a HT lead ( when the car wont start ), then ...

6. As suggested check fuel pump / pump relay / filter / fuel pressure regulator." -Not apparent, petrol died 6months ago, only running on lpg.

Quesions:
1. Can the tfi module die within two months, without any (thermal?) 'paste'?

2.The Hall Effect Unit (question2 above), is it worth replacing this from inside the dizzy or replace the whole dizzy?

3. How do i test the lead from the coil to the dizzy?

Many Thanks, im in gippsland 2hours away from home at my old mans place, ive got time to pull everything out and do it all myself i just need to know where to start :)
Matt

Hi There

Not 100 % saying this is your problem but could well be.
In reply to your questions....

1. Not using thermal paste will kill a TFI module quick smart.
The Hall Effect Unit inside could be cactus as well.
Personally, I would replace the whole dizzy, especially if its the
original and has seen a lot of K's.

2. If the coil is the original, I'd probably replace that as well.

This at least gives you peace of mind that these two important
components are OK and eliminates them as a potential
problem, now and down the track.

3. With regard to the coil lead.... I would replace it, along with the rest
of the HT leads, especially if they are quite old or the originals.
The reason is, that if you replace the dizzy and coil you may as well
do the leads at the same time as they are a pain to replace anyway.

Good Luck

2. How do you get to remove the dizzy, seems impossible to get to, unless i get under the car?
