Lol just saw in your list that it has 4.11's, you must be ripping through the gears very fast being manual eh?
Im also interested in knowing what's been done to the driveshaft too, heavy duty uni's or anything? |

Tail shaft is completely stock, haven't had a reason to change it, the uni's haven't broken and I dont get any vibration. I've blown 2 gearboxes and 1 diff, but the tail shaft is still all good. Yeah get through the gears fast enough. 1st and 2nd are over pretty fast but its loads of fun. It would be more suited to a track car than a drag car. Its supposed to be my 'toy/fun car' just to thrash around, Ive got a BA XR8 MKII which is supposed to be my daily, but it spends alot of time sitting while the XR6 is getting driven. Loosing my licence 7 times would indicate that I have alot of fun in the car LOL. I know stupid me.

Hell Yeah, I have 3.9 in an auto and that limits at 5800, (bolted on the stockies yesterday and rain in Melbourne today = serious fun drive home) Now yours would put on a smile that lasts a lifetime!!!!!! Lots of time & $$$.. I say well spent if it puts a silly grin on your face every time you drive it. BTW, question.... I have only had the car dyno'd once and power was not very impressive at 113rwkw, though torque was 540 odd nm. How the F**k did an N/A 6 produce that much?? Unless dyno reading not true...... |

The only thing I can think of is that the dyno was not corrected for my 3.9 ratio or he was not able to really get full power down. (due to ratios it has a habit of kicking back to second when giving WOT at 3.5-4Krpm in 3rd, Yay 1-3 seconds of 5200-5800rpm then rev limiter) Peak power and torque at 4.2-4.3K. Yet to have a tune, but how much can be one with stock ECU? |

Tail shaft and uni joints are all still stock, pretty sure I mentioned that in a previous post. Never had a drama with it, the Alloy unit in the AU's are pretty tough and I dont see the point in doing anything until it breaks or gives me problems. 4.11's are fun, but because I spin the engine so hard I still get a fair bit of speed out of each gear. But shes quick. Hard to get it to hook up in 1st and 2nd. I can side step the clutch at 5000rpm in 2nd and she'll sit and blow the tyres off the thing.. The only time it becomes a deathtrap is in the wet. Thats just purely danger even with good tyres on it.

The problem is speed related in autos with steel shafts.

Can't say I've ever been worried about the tailshaft or uni joints letting go or having problems..
I'm more worried about snapping another box though. The trusty old T5's just dont agree with my driving style and a brass button. I do however have scratches/grooves in the tailshaft from it hitting the underside of the body.. Thats from me playing silly buggers and doing high rpm launches with a full car load of mates, The a** end just squats that little bit too low with a car load of people. All in good fun though. This is the only car ive ever had, that has taken abuse and punishment day in and day out, not only running perfectly but she asks for more. But on the other hand, shes a pig lol. Especially in the mornings when she doesn't get a sleep in. Will stall on occasion, idles very angry.. worse than normal, doesnt like being under 3500rpm like ever, HATES sitting below 50-60km/h.. hates being driven granny style. Then she gets her s**t together and its go time. I wouldn't have it any other way.

141 or 142rwkw on CMS dyno, so probably 150-155 at other places
2.5" Cat Back Pacie 4480 K&N Pod 3" Intake CMS Stg2 Cam Custom Tune (not yet finalised) Hopefully get upto around mid 140's with finalised tune, around 400Nm

The cms dyno is notorious for being around 10% lower than other dynos. Seems to be a common trait for mainline dynos

Any headwork? I have heard mixed opinions about crow cams, some say they make reasonable power others say they're s**t. I reckon they they would be best suited if you run a tuneable chip to make the most of it like you are as a few have said they make stuff all power but on the stock ecu. Either way if you're pulling those figures, well done!! |
