What brands/type of power steering fluid should I use for EL-AU. I am told that it is differant to EA-EF.

Just remember that the A/T fluid in E series with a BTR auto is not the same as the P/S fluid.

I wouldn't use the BTR fluid in the power steering pump... don't know what it would do.

Just go to Kmart or a servo, and get good ol' Dexron III

If your pump and rack's in good nick dexron III

I've heard of people using BP super TOU or equivalent.
It's a general purpose tractor transmission/final drive/hydraulic fluid.
I've heard that it can fix the groans and shakes that some ford power steering systems get for no good reason.

Anyone else heard of this?

My EB had that problem but the rack was stuffed so no amount of different oil was going to fix that.

Cheers

This is what I got told to use, and yes its fully synthetic. Aparrently Ford changed their spec for EL and onwards, don't know why, i'm sure its the same pump & rack. Trouble is its 3 times the price $22/lt.
My mechanic said he uses DextronIII in all except variable ratio power steering systems.

I'm no expert but maybe the seals might not be fully compatable with dextron thats why I played it safe and used the Mobil stuff.

yea, but how many "average" people know that DEX3 and "power steering fluid" are one and the same? i mean, if they're gonna go to the trouble of specially packaging the stuff, i reckon they'd take the opportunity to take advantage of the uninformed
