I have a power steering leak (Ford Falcon AU) but I can't locate where the leak is.
I tightened the nut (see photo below - circled in red) After I tightened the nut, the leak dissapeared - but the leak came back after a few days. Help! where could this leak be coming from and how to fix it? Attachment:

At a guess, it's probably the shaft seal in the front of the pump housing. I think you can buy overhaul kits for them. Are all the hose fittings tight?

They don't have a nut on the shaft, the pulley is press fitted.

The problem is the fluid is leaking out from that nut and then onto another component underneath the tank.
Not sure what the component is but it's got metal windings inside it which are exposed.

Is the alternator part of the Power steering system?
Or another system

Standard, high preshure power steering line conector, it's almost imposible to remove the line from the conector and replace the fitting you'l need to replace the line + conector and make shure you put oil on the "o" ring before you fit it

This leak usually happens after driving for a while and turning the engine off. A small leak of 1 drop every couple of seconds may be evident coming from the bottom of that union fitting were talking about.
That's what happened to me. I actually got it replaced and the replacement fitting was faulty from new so I had that problem a 2nd time in as many days. Fcuk I was angry. I had completely degreased the engine bay after the initial one was replaced. All for fcuken nought! And that is what my car is all about. It has been busting my balls since the day I bought it. EVERYTHING, is a drama, and most things that are replaced don't work the first time and I need to do the same work all over again the next day. It's the biggest time waster in my life. And it's not as if I don't show it love, it's an a***hole to me. We might as well get married, but it can't give me kids, let alone drive normally.... |
