this happened to my ef as well. i had my steering near full lock for a while and when i turned the steering wheel the other way it went bang and lost all steering. and when i checked the fluid it was empty but no fluid leakes anywhere so i checked the rubber dust covers and all the fluid was in them. after i pulled the rack apart the seal retainer had actualy worked itself loose, and was told by a steering place that this is common, so i just got them to tighten the retainer up and bingo 6months later no leaks nothing.
