hey i need some real advice on how to go about putting an AU xr6 head, which has been ported on my EL xr6.
will the head just bolt on the EL sump? will the car run or will it need a tune? will their need to be any wiring changed? and finally how much would it cost to take my head off and put the AU head on? any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance |

that sounds awesome.
would you say a vct cam would be better than an el xr6 cam? would I still not need a tune even if the head is PORTED? |

VCT is totally different and will require a lot more effort. AU head with AU running gear (camshaft and rocker assembly) is pretty much plug and play. The car will run without requiring a tune, however it is always beneficial to get a custom tune to suit the modifications on the car for best results/performance. This can be costly though, ECU/J3 and tuning time ain't cheap. I think people put aside $2000 for tuning alone <---someone correct me here. To get someone to remove/install the head and supplying everything...no less than $1000, assuming the ported head is in good condition and doesn't require any further modification.

Get a good head and fit a decent cam with a vernier gear and you will find better results. If you are determined to fit a VCT head the you will need an RPM switch to activate the VCT. EF ECU will not control the VCT. Needs a VCT ECU and an AU ECU will not work in an EF. |

Was going to say the same thing.
In fact AUs have grown on me a bit. I still like the straight low lines of the EL, but tempted to sell it for $1200 and buy a auIII ghia with leather, climate, spoiler (cleans up the rear end a bit) and VCT for $3k. Anyone here got one and played with it? |
