Is the engine loom between an EF and an AU the same? They both use coilpacks.
Also is the dash loom the same between ef and el? Can an el ecu connect with an ef dash loom and vise versa (including ef bem)? If they are going to be the same then is there any advantage using a dizzy over coilpacks? Coz my new au motor is likely to come with a coilpack already. If anyone could help it'd be great

No the Engine looms are very different. The ones that come to mind are: The AU has a different coil pack so the LT plug has changed. The Crank sensor location is different and different type. The Engine coolant sensor is at the rear of the head not at the thermostat housing. The TPS plugs are different. The Knock sensor is different. The IAT and MAP sensor are a combined unit on the AU not seperate as in the EF so the plug and the wiring is different.
The Dash looms are not interchangable as there is a different plug one of the body loom connectors. There is no reason why you cant use your dissy and dispence with the coil pack.

OK. Thanks for the reply. I have worked out that the dash (including bem) I have is from an EF. So I suppose I would need to change a few plugs etc to suit sensors on au engine and run most of the EL engine loom (use dizzy instead of coilpacks). So then I would get an EL ECU. Now do you know if an EL ecu will still work with an EF bem? (i already have the dash loom from an ef).

The EL BEM and the EF ECU are compatible, you will need the EL dash loom though as the BEM plugs are different to the ef BEM. But to make it easier either go EF or EL depending on Coil pack or Dissy is your preference and not mix and match. As you have part of the EF loom already this may make your choice easier.

XH's are also 99% EL wiring otherwise. As mentioned, it will be easier to run matching engine and dash looms. You could run an EF dash loom with EL engine bay loom, but you would need to check all wiring into the EL 60 pin ECU correlates over from the EF 104 pin ECU.

[quote="twason"]The EL BEM and the EF ECU are compatible, quote]I should clarify this, the signals are compatible but the wiring looms are different.

Well I suppose I will just run an ef ecu and use ef coilpacks and engine bay loom. Should make it a bit easier me thinks. If I adapted the plugs of the au coilpack to the ef would it work? Or should I just buy a new coilpack etc for an ef model and fit it to my au motor.
Aside from wiring issues etc - is a dizzy better or worse than a coilpack? Or are they the same? Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciate it

Really appreciate it Coil pack or Dissy , not much difference under standard tune. If you have the AU coil pack then change the plugs otherwise use an EF coil pack with the EF engine loom. Put on an EF upper inlet manifold and thermostat housing to overcome the temp sender and map sensor issue. You will need to get an AU alternator as the EF won't fit and the bell housing from an AU to mate with your gearbox as the AU is different from E series. If you're running an EF engine loom, and using the AU BBM or an EF/EL BBM without the ISC (idle speed controller solenoid) attached, use the ISC from your EB manifold. The AU ISC and plug are slightly different in the clip position.

Bingo. I had to do alot of resoldering to get an EF high series loom running in my EL.

G'day sorry to reopen this topic but I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment. I have a El xr6 and have built a new engine but I'm using ef engine loom and using ef ecu for coil pack and other ef engine components. What i have hit a wall with is I've done everything well and good up to the bcm. Am I able to use the El bcm? Because the ef bcm connectors are different. Please help.

It'll be much easier to simply use a EF BCM.
It is possible. I did it in my EL (with a dash/ACC swap), but involved lots of re-wiring connectors.

If I changed the El dash loom to a ef dash loom will everything plug up alright on the other end? I know the ecu side will because I have the ef engine bay wiring and ecu. But what about the other end on drivers side? |
