My gregories manual says to torque the head bolts to 40nm and then turn them a further 90 degrees. While doing that, I used my torque wrench to see just how tight that was.. in actuall foot pound/newton metres.Turns out it's 70 foot pounds/94nm.
I had oiled the threads and bolt heads (and cleaned out the threads before hand) so it's pretty accurate, but interesting... all the bolts were within a couple of foot/pound torque from each other when they'd reached the 95 degree point.just FYI, obviously you are not supposed tighten torque to yeild bolts going solely by the torque used, but still interesting to know just how tight they are when tightened as per spec.
Use the specs for the headgasket used - normally 2 stage (3 stage not a good idea), been covered many times on here. Good explanation in the links for the final angular torque.
