Just try and explain the problem and get him to run a diagnostic check. The car generates error codes for certain problems. If its not that start checking obvious things like leads, injectors etc.
Does it make any funny noises?

Does it make any funny noises? Not funny exactly, like it's stressing somewhat, the engine or driveline. Almost sounds like it's in neutral, but still gathering momentum (it isn't actually in neutral I can tell you that). I am almost positive it is not the transmission.

As someone stated earlier it could be the torque converter. Maybe it is not locking up properly?
Also if you have moisture around the injector it could have a leak, therefore it maybe sucking air in through the hole and underfuelling (running to lean). But I wouldn't have thought that one leaky injector would make as big a difference as you are saying there is. Anyway will be interested to hear what the problem is. |

Well she goes in tomorrow morning, just hope the mechanic has time to find the problem out. Main reason for visit is to fit power steering pump and low pressure hose. And yeah, will be interested, lots of different ideas in this thread.

Well power steering pump and low pressure hose went in. Cost $100 bucks, $20 bucks for the pulley because apparantly they crack on older cars when you take them off, not bad.
Then I went for a cruise with Ludwig (mechanic) and he says it is not the automatic (thank God). Could be coil pack, injectors, something like that. How much are coil packs? Anyway, has to do more investigating another day. Doesn't sound that expensive yet, so that's good.

get the mechanic to run a diagnostic if they can, it may be as simple as a soleniod in the auto breaking down.

Great, the problem is getting worst, happened under 2000rpm today.

I'm still thinking it's an ignition problem.
It doesn't do it just free-revving it in neutral does it? Try plugs and leads, and hope it isn't your coil pack...

Nah, doesn't do it in neutral, and definately isn't transmission.
How much is a new coil pack ya reckon?

Wouldn't have a clue mate, sorry
Gimme a dizzy and a single coil any day Definately try plugs and leads first, because it does sound like a problem thats only occuring under load. Get your plugs out, check the gaps, and what condition they're in (bit of browning on the insulator is normal, but carbon deposits and a black insulator are not). If they're f**k, it could well be the source of your problem. If not, get a new set of leads (use it as an excuse to get some fatter ones of a higher quality). If that still doesn't solve it, ring around and get a price on a new coil pack. Good luck, hope it goes well.

I'm having trouble trying to picture this, if the car is dipping foward at a certain RPM, then it has to be slowing down for the weight to shift to the front???
Which could be the transmission slipping, or a major flat spot right? I wouldn't think the tailshaft uni-joints would be the prob here. Dude, go and get a Repair manual for your EF, and have a good look at it. You might be able to figure out whats wrong yourself... if not, you'll gain some automotive knowledge, and at least start calling parts by their 'proppa' name. That way if anyone on here starts telling you stuff to look for, you can compare it to the book. I knew nothing (and I mean nothing) about my Falcon until I bought a Gregorys Manual, one of the first and best things I ever bought. Its my Bible. lol

I'm a bit iffy about taking them out too, any special way of taking them out and putting htem back in again? And does the battey need to be disconnected to do this?

He is talking about the spark plugs.
You don't need to disconnect the battery to check them, but you will need a ratchet with a spark plug socket. I would suggest only taking the lead off one spark plug and checking it at a time then replacing it being extra careful not to cross or strip the thread in the head, that way you will not put any leads back in the wrong order. |
