Well tonight when driving my bro to some party the car all of a sudden was kind of stuck in acceleration. I was coming up a hill about 60km/h and the front of the car kind of dipped a wee bit and you could feel a stern vibration from that big long a** thing under the chasis that spins and drives the back wheels. Happened a few more times on the way back. What is the most common problem (for where the noise is coming front) or what does this sound like to you guys?

Check your engine mounts, and get underneath and check everything is where it should be.

I would also be checking the universal joints on the big long a** thing under the chasis that spins and drives the back wheels (commonly referred to as a tailshaft).

Sounds like transmission locking up, the driveshaft wouldnt make the car dip. dont forget the trans ends just behind the front seats and teh driveshaft ends just behind the rear seats.

Unlikely. If a gearbox starts to seize, it keeps going. It doesn't simply half seize, then unseize at will.

all i know its unlikely to be the shaft!! if it was it has to be severly bad as in ready to fall out. For the front to dip there is something binding.

Happened again today. It usually happens when I rev past 2G, but happened below that today when entering the freeway. I'm quite sure the transmission isn't stuffed, as it still changes smoothly. But maybe some other, less common aspect of the transmission? It isn't a major dip in the front, hard to explain. I don't know. Hope a mechanic agrees to take a drive with me so I can show him. Going to be hard to explain what is happening, I can tell you that.

"Check your engine mounts, and get underneath and check everything is where it should be."

Where are they? And how do I check them?

if it's happening only when the engine is reving at certain point i'd be rulling out the diff and tailshaft, as these don't spin in proprotion to the engine speed, they spin in proportion to the cars speed.
probably engine mounts or something related to the engine.
were are the engine mounts, were the engine sits on the chasis, get under the car and you should be able to find em.
does it happen if the cars in neutral at all?

Today it did it a lower rev than what it usally does <2000rpm. Ummm, if you mean neutral as in when I'm stationary, no I don't think so, need acceleration for it to happen. Or you mean shove it into neutral when I'm accelerating? I don't know, haven't done it, should I try it? What does it mean if it still does?

Went for a drive with my dad in my car jus then. He doesn't know much more than I about mechanics, but he felt it was like the petrol wasn't getting to the engine or something? Which doesn't sound so silly as there is moisture around one of the injectors.

Like the boys said, is it at a certain rpm, or a certain speed?
If it's a certain rpm it could very well be a fueling or ignition problem.

Okay, just took the car for a quick spin to get this info. for you guys. I can't get it to happen under 60km/h and it's generally at 2200rpm. Definately coming from the front I think. I'm having new power steering put in tomorrow morning, should I mention something to them? Going to be bloody hard, not sure how to explain it.

It sounds like a fuelling or ignition problem, if it's happening at 2200, and generally over 60km/h, pretty high load really.

Try and replicate it up a hill.

What i experience is when i am over about 90 and accelerate at about a third and take my foot off rapidly the car shudders forward like letting the clutch out too fast in a manual, mine is an auto though. What me and my dad worked out is that it is because the torque converter for EA's locks up at about 90-100 and the revs drop fast as i take my foot off it shocks the car.

Over 600 posts and you don't know what to call the tail shaft. Drive shaft is boats.

Cheers

Good luck....hope it doesn't cost much.
