just trying to guage what temp thermo's ppl are running.

ive gone for the stock 91* and i know that the 71* is way not right for the i6. but how many of you have an 81*? theres been a little bit of debate about it, but not much.

Mr. radiator man swears black and blue that 81* is spot on for a falcon

I use the 81* in bothe my I6s. Heaters work well, but the ute runs a little warm when its real hot and the aircon is on.

I had the 81° in mine but the car wouldnt warm up right and made it run 2L/100km richer. So i put a 91° in and its perfect.

As for the ute im going to take it out cause it does s**t all. The car over heats so it may keep it cooler.

If I recall, the std t'stat for a 4.0/3.9 is 92dgs. The XF had 88dgs.
Nearly all engines today run a 92/93dgs t'stat, except those that have the t'stat mounted lower down, eg: 1HZ Toyota, 3SFE/5SFE Toyota.
Anyway, that temp of 92/93dgs is the temp at which the fuel will be most benificial to power and economy and emissions.
The days of having 71/81/82/88 dgs t'stats has long past, for the modern vehicle.
I still run a 92dgs in my 88EA, and have no overheating probs, it was 38dgs here yesterday, only got to half way on the guage.

I agree, I always ran a 92º thermostat in both my EA and my EL neither of them had overheating problems, because I always looked after the rest of the cooling system. IMO running a colder thermostat is nothing more than a bandaid solution to a real problem.

Exactly, if its overheating, there's a problem, colder or no t'stat is a bandaid as previously stated.

na, its not over heating. the radiator man said headgaskets and all the other alloys in the block warp because they get too hot.
