hey guys, my last thread i spoke about swapping out my engine for an EL/AU engine as my gudgion are potentialy screwed, have spent over 2k on the engine already, and i think its time to cut my losses after the advice everyone has given me, but i forgot to ask how much do you guys think it would cost to get someone to swap the engine over? just in labour, as i will buy the engine myself.
Also is it worth trying to find a tickford engine? is there that much difference between it compared to a standard I6? |

no i am a mechanic but when i work at home i dont have the overheads that a biusness does, so 350$ for a criusy day is good. so look for someone who is a machenic and wants the exta cash

Some pretty talented fellas on here in Melb who'd do it for you probably cheaper than a workshop...
In terms of a tickford motor... They all sound good an well, but on my ED the std motor had like 148kw and the tickford had 155 or something and this was made up in the computer, fuel pressure reg, cam, and head... So fitting just a tickford motor without all the other bits and pieces, even with all the bits and pieces, doesn't seem to promise much of gain... Most benifit would be from things like less restrictive air intake and extractors, etc etc... Could easily pick up like 10 or 20kw by freeing up the system, possible more than what a tickford motor would give you for the twice the price... Food for thought... Cheers, Tim

probably about 4-600 alot can come in to play water hoses fuel hoses pipes wiring ect.......... this can all become cracked and frayed and are not giving you problems then you start pulling it appart and they all fall to bits so your best of getting a full hose kit to give them to install

anyone on here in melb that can do this for me? id rather give money to someone on this forum than any old mechanic. I live in the Mornington Peninsula, so if closer to that the better.
Where would i pick up a full hose kit from? price? |

i am definitely concidering an AU engine, 2 questions.
1) how do i go about modifying the sump to fit my EL? 2) Will the AU engine work with my EL ECU? |

Hi na pretty sure AU went back to coil packs with no dizzy... So would require a AU ECU plus wiring... Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
Also the sump is no prob on AU motors... it all fits same block (or very close anyway to E series)... I think you might need diff engine mounts maybe? and I think there is a couple of bolts with the bell housing that don't line up, you might need AU bell housing... Again not 100% but someone might be more precise here...

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FIRST,get all together and one of the guys or a team effort should do it,replace all the hoses that are hard to fit with the engine out, have a spare engine mount ready, gaskets, oils, coolants and any bits that you want to change, its only 1 labour cost.the worst is finding parts as your working---im spoilt ,i have a spare parts place that home delivers to me on weekends, but i make sure all the parts are in stock during the week,if i need them for the v8s-----i6s are better and easier.
