How do you bleed the air out of the cooling system after a radiator flush/clean?

Do you:

(1) Keep the radiator cap ON and then turn on heater to Max (this is what Max Ellery manual says),

Or, do you:

(2) Keep the radiator cap OFF and then turn on heater to Max (this is what some people said)

Which one is the correct way to do it?

I was told take the Radiator Cap off but leave it on the hole.

mak sure the heater is to hot.fill the radiator till its full.then start the engine and observe the temperature of the engine.let it idle till its at operating temperature and then observe the top and bottom radiator hoses. For it to be at operating temperature both top and bottom radiator hoses should be hot. Also making sure there are no more air bubbles appering in the top of the radiator filler neck.if the fluid in the top of the radiator is hot just put the cap on and your set.

Just over the next couple of days just keep an eye on the coolant level you may need to top it up alittle.

So you're saying leave the radiator cap ON?

The reason I'm asking is because some people say you should leave the cap OFF while bleeding the air

If yo do a search about the cooling system flush,i have left a few posts about the procedue/method to doing a successfull flush and bleed of the cooling system.

Yes you do leave the radiator cap off while bleeding the cooling system, otherwise if you leave the cap on it will not bleed properly.

I will advise you always bleed the cooling system everytime you flush or replace the coolant.Because each time you drain the cooling system then refill it it captures are in the block and radiator, this air in the cooling system can also create rust in the coolant system because air and water are 2 effects which cause rust and cavitation.

I would advise not to listen to people who say they never bleed a cooling system,if you want damage to occur to your engine or cooling system listen to them,if you want the job done right take my advise.

no he means release the cap 1 "click" so that it's still on but not sealed, stops potentialy hot water from bubbling out.

leave the cap on for the expansion, but not down tight as if it has air it will struggle to come out, or build pressure and you wont be able to top it up easy.

heater on, heater off? well, heater on fan to 1. dont worry about it too much, the line at the top of the housing is the bleed back. just dont go trashing it as that will cause an issue, just let it idle for 5-10 and that will be fine

hmm either I am doing it wrong or something... I fill the system and then put rad cap on and then take the return line off the top of the thermostat housing and leave until it is a constant stream.

in that case i'd be leaving the cap off and the return line on the housing HOWEVER, if it works for me and your methods worked for you, go with what you know
