I just bought a Repco radiator for my EL. Had to pay $240, but I guess I'm a little wary buying something like the heart of the cooling system of eBay when you can't check over the item.
Anyway, the guy at Repco told me that "if the vehicle wasn't grounded properly it could cause surging in the radiator and could cause it to split, voiding warranty". Does that make sense to any of you guys because it sounds like gobbledegook to me.

Did you slap him? That kind of misinformation deserves a belting.
Only thing i could possibly think of is that maybe he means if the thermofans screw up, the engine can overheat?? Oh and the radiators from GMAN on ebay are great!!

Gman as good as repco or better? BTW, how do you check if your vehicle is earthed anyway?

Looks like I got ripped off at Repco then. Anyway, I needed to fit it tomorrow because it's loosing heaps every day (seeping from the left side). GMan next time.

I don't know hiow true it is, but i've heard that if you have poor earths, voltage can be conducted through the radiator supporting electrolysis and corrosion. I doubt its as serious problem as they make out, but it certainly wouldn't cause a spontaneous tank bursting or something equally rediculous. You've just gotta laugh at some wives tales about cars!

Gizmo, that something like what the fella at Repco said. But yeh, sounds a bit dramatic.
Replacing the radiator is a good time to flush the system and fit new hoses so I'll be getting into that tomorrow.

Drill an 1/8" hole in the t'stat, this helps with bleeding air from the system and helps stop "heat shock" at the radiator.

i thought electrolysis is only an issue on aluminium radiators?

This is definitely true. A stray earth is a radiator's worse nightmare. have heard of people adding an extra earth strap to the radiator's steel frame to prevent electrolysis. As for surging, where's the surge going to come from????
