Thinking of putting in a new radiator before summer hits, EF is running a little hotter the past couple of years so time for a replacement unit and flush etc ... what do people recommend that is a straight fit (3 core?)

I find just a standard one is good enough Greg - as long as she's a newie - should do you fine.

perhaps start lookin at the fuggin stupid mild steel pipes on the block. the main one coming from the water pump and the secondary from the thermostat housing.
pm me for a stainless quote but don't expect immediate replies.

Just get a cooler thermostat. If you worried about your radiator just get it replaced with a stock one or get it serviced which ever is cheaper.

A couple of the NSW boys have had success using the new Aluminium core replacement rads. I will probably be using one of these soon myself.

I never had a drama with the aftermarket "stock" replacement radiators from SSS. you could always look into the PWR brand of alloy rads

PWR are great radiators, but they cost a bomb(960 delivered for mine) and are NOT plug and play. They require a tonne of work and mods (7 hours for mine of cutting and grinding)to get them to fit.

So far i find that with the two core radiator if something isn't spot on you can have problems. I don't like to have a lingering fear of an overheat. You may for example be on a big trip and the thermostat plays up, and you want to be able to get to help. Or a day might come where you are towing a car on a trailer and it's a stinker of a day and you are heading up the range and thinking, did i prepare for such as this, or not?
I would definitely go three core for the extra reserve, bringing the car more in line with other cars on the road, whose temp guages hardly move. They aren't massively more in price. It's cheap insurance against doing a head gasket (though no guarantee).

ok going to go cooler thermostat and a radiator flush, see how that goes first off. Cheaper
This cooler thermostat - what are the details / numbers on it I need to look for? Thanks.

aftermarket ones can be had for little as $250 inc thru some of my contacts if your interested greg(i work in spare parts).
you'll see how much better it keep cool and have no care in the world much more time scoping the talent on the beach than watching the temp guage.

I have been running a 82 degree Tridon thermostat for a few years now and makes a difference. BPT thermostats are 82 degrees aswell.

The fact that people are going for cooler thermostats is strong evidence that the standard radiator is underdone.
In the kind of situations where the motor overheats, a cooler thermostat will do little or nothing. At 92deg both thermostats are open, and from then on there is no difference between them.
