Ok I was changing the oil in my EL, and was re-filling the engine with Magnatec, which is what ive always used in it and never a problem. Anyway as im nearing the end of the 5L I can hear some dripping, I know the sump plug is in tight, and so is the oil filter. So I take a look underneath to find out WTF is going on, and there is two areas of leakage which is dripping quite fast. One area is on the front part of the crossmember, below the balancer, the other area is the passenger side of the crossmember coming out of one of the holes? WTF. I cant see how the oil is getting to these locations? There is a small leak from the front crank seal, but its only a very slow weap, not even a drip. And there is some more weaping around the pressure switch area, which could be coming from the head, but again far from the kind of flowing I was seeing.

It seems to have stopped, although I havnt taken it for a drive to see if it comes back.
All I can think of was the Magnatec bottle was a new high flow design, basically you could pour in the whole amount quickly with any gurgling, which is what I did.
Perhaps this large flow of oil caused some overflowing inside the engine? I didnt have real good look in the dipstick area but perhaps it come out of that?

Amount that came out may have been 100-200mls in about 5-10mins

This happened to anyone else?

When you remove the oil filter, oil usually gets on the k-frame and runs around if your not used to doing them.

didnt leave the original oil filter O ring on then screw the new filter on??generally the falcons wont overflow anything if you fill them fast,they have the huge hole at the front where the chain is.also could the oil have run back down the bottle as you were pouring it, without you knowing?

Oil filter was dry, and the old filter had its o-ring.
Also when I started it there was no gushing from the filter.

HAHAHA, you live and learn aye? My sister's fiance did that in the Honda...lost half the oil all over the driveway.

Was going to say what madeaspack said...you sure you didn't have some new oil spill anywhere?

Go under the car and trace back where the oil is coming from.

phong =P~
