Does it do it all the time or just sometimes?
Has this just started? Might be a loose steering rack, not uncommon!

Yep Fords answer to that is weld the studs into place...Great if you need to replace them...But I guess its an occupational, safety, health thing.... Mind you this only happens when mechanics undo them and don't check that the studs are tight first before fitting rack....

That seems like quite high fuel consumption to me...

Lol, then you drive like a a grandma!!!! I'd kill for 650km from a tank... But anyways... bud and lynn, try calling your local dealership... there was a recall regarding the steering rack so you may be able to get it sorted out free of charge.

Nothing much! Engine is stock, regularly serviced. In the country I drive casually, just cruising, and use cruise control. 800km easy out of a tank. might have something to do with running it on premium.

Mind you this only happens when mechanics undo them and don't check that the studs are tight first before fitting rack.... small correction is needed here. ford do not weld them inplace. because you can't weld steel bolts to an alloy sub frame. the welds are there to show that the rework has been done. and to ensure that the studs can not be removed. the problem is not cuased by mechanics not checking the studs are tight. it happens when nuts are not put back on at the correct torque seting. the fix for the problem is to simply remove the nuts, clean the thread on the stud with a wire brush put a small amount grease on the thread and torque the nut back on the correct torque. |

Thats if you can get your car booked in at a Ford Dealer there was a 3 - 4 month wait for my car to get the safety recall done

On a vaguely related topic, what is that switch/sensor on the top of the rack that you can see from the engine bay ??
AFAIK there's no communication from the computer to the rack ??
