hey guys first time post first time car build
just purchased a AU xr6 in mint condition for $2000 but the motor has done 300 000kms, so my questions are 1 is it worth a rebuild with a few mods for some power 2 and how much do you think it would cost 3 or should i search for a new motor to replace it and what sort fits well with little mods to comp and so on 4 how hard is it for a turbo to be fitted to the original motor 5 finaly does anyone no a good place to have any of the above done in PERTH WA thanks guys, sorry for being so vague still researching all of the above but i posted this to get a headstart thanks for your input |

1- Is it broken/shagged? If not, then probably not
2- No idea 3- Might get a low k XR6 engine for $700~. Normal AU engine should run about half that. 4- Every second person has a boosted falcon. Some of them are total wankers, so it cant be that hard. 5- No idea. In my experience, 300,000km's for an AU motor is barely run in. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Depends how much power you want and how much you want to spend on it.

I agree, leave it as is for the time being. Save your $$$ for a rebuild and just keep looking after what you have, regular oil changes with good 10W30-40 oil and a GOOD Oil Filter, spark plugs, air cleaner elements and fuel filters. Flush the Brakes and spend some $$$ on making sure the brakes, steering and suspension are in good condition.
Too many people work on the GO part but forget the stop and handle dept. |

Do the cheaper stuff first.
My AU xr6 (non vct) responded extremely well to: 3inch intake piping with a pod filter. pacemaker 4499 extractors ballistic 100cpsi racing cat converter redback 2.5" catback exhaust And a good service. All that will run to less than $1000 and makes the world of difference.

Well mine had about 160K on it but with the above done it felt like a different car. Of course if you are planning on boost dont do any of that.

It depends on the condition of the individual engine...without knowing compression test results or the car itself you can't say whether you are better off rebuilding it.
I have seen cars with 500xxxkm on them run perfectly, but many with a lot less that should be rebuilt. If you just want more power/quicker car hard to go past exhaust/cam/j3/manual conversion (if auto) for bang for buck. Don't bother turboing unless you want to spend $10,000 or feel lucky.

Seriously do people google "f**k up modifications for Fords owned by Jews" and get linked straight to this site nowadays? AU,factory fitted tickford kit/IRS, t5,Sports ryder/KYB: gone. |

I picked up a low km (100xxx) non vct ticky motor recently for only $350
It was already removed and that included delivery to wherever I wanted it. This was from a respected melbourne wreckers called 'Grant walker' |
