Well as the title states I'm rebuilding an i6 usingthe ACL +0.5mm rebuild kit, had the block bored and honed to specs and have followed closely to a jim mock motorsport guide on rebuilding... BUT! ive only just started the rebuild and ive had nothing but problems....
firstly I snapped a piston ring while inserting the new pistons into the cylinders but ok ill get another. the worst part is it seems the bottom end bearings are way too tight, as in when i install them and even only half torque the crank flange bolts it is impossible to turn the crank, i have tried with the old bearings and the crank turns wonderfully... even with the old bearings the conrod bearings do exactly the same thing. im only at the starting stage of the rebuild and im hating it so much. my question is has anybody used the ACL kit before and have you ever encountered any of these problems before? sorry to say but id say it would be best to take it to someone that knows what they are doing. i know its fun to do these things by yourself but i wouldnt be stuffing around with things like this esp if you are having problems. sorry mate

Look on the old bearing shell, reverse side & see if it says " .010 or STD or something like that, then look at the new bearing shells to see if it says the same.
Also, the bearing shells only go in oneway.

Was going to comment on the thrust bearing but is probably not the problem.
Yeah mike up your crank to the new cups and see what's up.

Silly question, has the crank been ground 10 thou because if it hasnt it wont turn with 10 thou oversize bearings.
Rings are broken on installation because of carelessness and being open too far when being installed on the pistons.

Hey,
I think the ACL parts are good value for money. I had no probs installing rings onto my new pistons ( 6G72 Mitsu V6) You will have to get you crank ground for the bearing shells you have. As stated, get a micrometer and measure if the crank is still in spec, then you will know if you have to get another set of std bearings. You could probably get away with it, but it depends if you're going to give it a hiding or not. Personally i would just get the crank ground seeing as though you have the parts already. A grind would be about the cost of new bearings. Are the pistons you got the hypereutectic ones?? You cannot beat researching things if you are not quite confident of doing the job yourself. Out of curiosity, how many KMS did the motor have before hand?? Cheers Daz

mate u can go wrong real quick if u dont know what u are doing....
make sure you check your ring gaps and put them in the right way...how did u check piston to bore clearance?
