hey all,
im going to be doing a rebuild on my ed6, at the moment its stock as a rock, i wanna chase 150rwkw - 170rwkw, can anyone tell me what needs to be done and how much its going to cost me(including labour). ill be getting someone to do this for me most like because i dont got a clue. if use could recomend some places in melbourne (s.e surburbs even better) it would be much appreciated. i know about the usual mods (cam, zorst system, cai, diff ect) but when it come down to head work, bearings, pistons, valves..........ect i dont know nothing. im looking at having this done in the next few weeks as i think my big end bearing is on the way out. i got a little bit of advice in another thread but thought id start a new one on topic.

the main reason you got nothing is because this question gets asked ALOT.
use the search function and you'll get all the info you need, with us all having to type it out again

prices vary alot. but for what you want. with a rebuilt bottom end, you wont see change from about $7000

but that won't make anywhere near 170rwkw without a big cam to go with it, and most likely higher compression/rebuilt bottom end....

big cam = chip & tuning as well. I agree with tickford, unless you can get good prices and build yourself $7000

I spent $7000 on a FULL rebuild, inc ALL labour, just on the engine. That incleded converting to an EF manifold as well.

I achieved 160KW at the wheels with my $7000, and regret spending every cent of it. Save your money, and in a year or two buy a BA/BF, if you can still afford to run a big car.

But if you must, look at a turbo setup, dont go naturally aspirated. It will cost you the same and be SO MUCH better. [talking from experience]. There are many good quality turbo kits available out there.

defently not going turbo, id consider supercharge. and im not to fond of the BA, im an e series man i just love the shape. anyways i think im just gonna pull the engine out and drop a el xr6 engine in, and do a bit of work to it and just leave it at that

im with xr6eb i spent about $5000 rebuilding my bottom end n i did most of the labour, with a tickford head n big cam n s**t i got 165 atw and i regret spending the money wen i should hav jus run a low boost turbo kit n i probly would hav got bout 200 atw.
i rekon i would hav spent close to $20000 on my car noy n its stil a s**t gli that ill only ever get mayb 8000 for if im lucky.

you guys need to shop around a bit more...

just for a basic rebuild shouldnt even cost $3000

but if you want labour for remove and replace engine then more

plus more for porting etc...

engine management / dyno will add a lot to that but it will on any engine

if you have any quotes put them up...ill try to find some of mine
