for the price, it's easier and safer to just buy a new one.

Yer I saw the price and nearly died too, I can get the pbr major rebuild kit for like $70 for the extra $100 I would not bother but for a $200 saving ill prb give it a go. I am not really worried about doing it saftey wise as im pretty good with technical stuff it just seem like it might be a pain but hell I rebuilt engines and gearbox's before so cant be much worse lol.

I'm not worried about your safety either, it's every one els i'm worried about. Brakes is one thing i don't believe an amateur should be playing with. If you get an engine or gearbox wrong, it no big deal as far as hurting other people, if you get brakes wrong you could kill someone. |

And in that case the way I see it doing just about anything to your car could endanger people, if brakes are not for amateurs then we shouldn't change our pads or calipers or even master cylinders and even stuffing up when your change a uni joint or bearing or even something as simple as changing a Tyre wrong can kill. Don't get me wrong I am not saying your wrong but I think that people in the know make these things out to be far more "mysterious" than they are and that just make's them more money. I'm currently over half way threw a engineering degree and it has just opened my eyes as to how much this happens. Anyways I appreciate everyone's thoughts on the subject Thanks Lads |

Mate it is simple remove rear clip side piston out note direction of seals in fact take a photo wash the cyl in metho throughly and rinse in hot water.
Inspect internal bore for scratches or wear marks in clear no score or wear marks you can us it . IF THERE ARE SCORES OR LINES IN BORE IN THE BIN and buy a new one. Use rubber grease to rebuild repco sell PBR Grease IT R&R remove all the seals lay them down in sequence clean piston with metho. I use a small flat blade screwdriver to R&R seal when fitting new seals make sure they r seated and not twisted. Re install piston to Master cyl bore fit circlip go to wrecker and buy s/hand brake pipes cut and modify pipes so that they fit into reservoir. fill reservoir with brake fluid mount master cyl in to a vise protect master cyl with a rag and start pumping piston in and out until no bubbles appear in reservoir place cover on reservoir reinstall in car renove modify pipe and fit orginal pipes in car leave slightly loose pump pedal 5/6 time then secure pipes to master cyl. check pedal if not solid you will need to bleed calipers one at a time from rear to front. good luck gassa

Thanks mate that makes sense, I have been reading a fair bit in different manuals and watching some videos etc, I have rebuilt a slave cylinder and hydraulic pumps before so I got a head start. Once again thanks for the great info !

yer i'm in the engineering game and i agree with the so called 'professionals' baffling people with bullshyte.
is it a reseal kit or a stainless sleeve insert kit your talking bout ?

The one I was looking at was a reseal kit, I think the thing is fine but I need to do it for a road worthy cause apparently there is a leak like serious u must need a magnifying glass to see it. Oh and this is from the same place that after taking a car in for a roady just after putting in a spanking new set of kings they listed on the sheet "springs cut - Replace" I mean FFS !!!!, The problem is round here most place wont do a roady on cars over 15 years old.

yer i'm startin to feel that pain to with my 'usual guy' for rego not in business anymore getting my ea done. it's a (unt act.
cut springs eh, that reminds me of when i replaced every bush in the car with nolathane, replaced every ball joint, tie rod end & wheel bearing then took it for a pink slip a month later and he tried to tell me my ball joints were phuked. then completely overlooked the giantic hole cut in my guard (which in my defense is neat and safe:)) to accomodate the cai which was an eecIV box on a log manifold ea with no visible outlet.... these people are hard to outsmart, it's one thing counter intelligence, it's another to counter anti-intelligence. the other option for a pitted master cylinder is to get it resleeved with a stainless insert, i've heard rumours of getting this done cheap but actaully getting it done has proved another story,as a result i'm going to do my own...one day, due to a leak that only apears when the cars sits for over a week, with everyday use its never a drama. as much as people despise them i love my box car, i see it as the last of the real cars, a lightweight, basic, primative weapon (when modfied). <runs off on a tangent>

Yer the sleeve sounds like a good idea, *sigh* if only I had a lathe I would just make it all up myself.
