Hey guys,
I need a coolant for my EF 6 cylinder auto. And also tell me where i can get it from either from ford or supacheap, autobarn, repco, etc. and tell me how much it will cost. I want to flush my whole system. Here's the story, i was drilling holes for the ba snorkle and drilled the radiator, while i was taking out all the hoses i saw all the rust in em and some hoses were blocked. so i look at the thermostat and inside is like got rusty water and crap and the thermostat is al crapped. mind you i recently bought this car and never actually drove it just started modding everything. so now im looking for radiator, thermo and housin and all the hoses. In a diff point of view me drilling the radiator was a good thing. So all the help needed here to flushing the whole engine and the lot. Thanks

Depending if you get Coolant that you need to dilute yourself or if you get pre-mixed coolant it would be about $30-$40. I'd just use the green stuff, works for me.

Replace the radiator, fill with fresh water.
Drive for a week. Flush water (as much as you can) install tectaloy xtra cool gold ($18) inhibitor, and refill with demineralized water (or tap) vic water is ok. nearly ALL pre mixed coolant is s**t. And as i said, stay away from terrible alloy radiators. Gman the radman (eBay) has good products.

mate don't just get inhibitor.. make sure its ANTIFREEZE ANTIBOIL
Get the nulon green concentrate from supercheap for about $34 bucks.. Tip whole bottle into the cooling system, then top up with demineralized water until full..(check level after a few days as it usually goes down slightly) |

Do you live somewhere that the coolant is likely to freeze overnight?
The best stuff you can put in your car is Redline Water Wetter. Get a bottle of that from Autobarn, or Coventrys, or any good workshop. Cost about $30 Get 2x 15L goonbags of distilled water from Coventrys Cost $12 each or something similar It will cost more than Nulon or any of the other cheap brands, but thats because you're paying for quality. You have enough distilled water that you can run some neat through the system to flush the s**t out, even use a radiator flush if you wish. Then you can get the system hot, and drop the fluid, refill with distiled water, get it hot and drop the fluid again. Refill with distilled water, and put in the Water Wetter. If you DO live somewhere that the coolant is likely to freeze overnight (I doubt it) Then you can mix in some Glycol, if not then leave the mix as is. Glycol is the worlds best antifreeze, it will not help to keep your car cool, nor rust free, but it will cause the cooling system to turn acidic every 12 months or so. Water Wetter has all the rust inhibitor and antiboil properties required by ADRs but it will out perform all Coolants. If you HAVE to use Glycol, I recommend Valvoline G05. I hope this helps MaTTe

couldn't of said it better myself....
get the water wetter. and glycol is bad, real phukin bad when you put too much in and see it leeching out of everywhere. mind you that said an effiecient cooling system on a cool day if the thermos are operated it can actually freeze the fluid in the bars rendering the radiator useless, but i'm under the belief that the water going into the raiator when the thermostat opens is fair hot enough to thaw it out. that plus the fact that a falcon will never be awsomely thermally efficient

Like since my radiator and bottle was filled with crap corrosion stuff. I took it all out and gave both a good clean and rinse as well as all the hoses. The hoses looks fine to me but i couldn't clean all the rust stuff that is stuck on the inside wall of the hoses mind you i cleaned it as much as i could. Since the car hasn't been running that much as of yet there would be crap in the engine as well...so what i will do is put back the radiator and bottle and hoses which i clean and flush it with that. I don't want to flush with the new radiator and bottle. Or if someone can correct me if this is right way to do it?? Or someone tell me which pipe is the return pipe from the engine i am presuming its the one at the bottom...if it is like this then i can put the new bottle and radiator and take the return pipe out and or face it to the ground so no crap water will go back into the new radiator. Can someone tell me which way would be best from the two ways i have written. (phew that was a long post)..

Dont be surprised if you head starts leaking or your welch plugs.Very common to leak after you have disturbed the rusty merky substance that once occuppied your cooling system.Poorly maintained cooling system that are rusty and just have water are no good.Just something to look out for once you have done that job.

asizzy wrote: I've replaced my welsh plugs before. Hi AsIzZy, like what FORDom said, get the NULON ANTI FREEZE ANTIBOIL, and if you have a clean rain water tank that will be fine cause there is no other chemicals in the rain water (that's if you have it)
BEFORE you put the coolant in it, give it a REALLY good flush, making sure you get all the crap out, you don't want to waste it or ya money!!! Also when you do clean it and fill her up, take the little hose off the thermastat housing, to bleed the system, once it get's filled it will get rid of the air in the system, it will be like water flowing out of a garden hose. Hope this help's ya!! Cheers Jason. |
