I'd put some better springs in and get some headwork done while its getting done too...

theres a few place's up here,at work we get all our machine work and heads done at HB sales and we reassemble them but just have a look in the phone book and get some price's.Are you taking the motor out or you dropping it off and picking it back when done..

Rough guess for what you want done ( port & polish, cam & v/springs + vernier ).....$5,000 to $6,000.....thats drop the car off, pick it up when finished.

Maybe think about an AU motor into the ED instead?!

If you kept your current motor and got them to rebuild it, an ACL rebuild kit is about $800. Get them to use an AU metal headgasket ($100) which will save you grief down the track.

A camshaft - brand new billet - will be about $400-600.
Regrinding a standard cam into something a little more lift = airflow = potential power/torque costs $150-$250.
New performance valve springs are about $150 for Crow (Ebay price)
Vernier timing gear is $180ish (Ebay price)

If you go the porting it will start at a few hundred at least. 'Pocket' porting gets the most bang for buck.

Maybe a good start might be just get a 3 angle valve (seat) job which will cost about $250. I've rang a few around Newcastle recently. HB sales didn't sound interested and were a bit exxy for the valvework.

To all that add labour. How much can you do yourself?

I thought the same thing. Spent some money on tools and did majority of my mods myself do to money constraints...best learning curve ever.

If in doubt, buy a second engine and work on that. At least if you fail, you would have learned from your mistake...however if all goes well, you're ahead.

You can get AU engines here in Sydney for as little as $150, with quite low kays, say under 150k.

You can then install it yourself, along with a BBM conversion for well under $500.

No need to rebuild at all.

Cheers
