i got my redback for $265 installed, had a middle muffler and a rear res but i asked for them to cut out the rear res and replace with straight pipe. so i guess $290 isn't bad.
i got mine done at 'performance exhaust' in ringwood

I had a single glass pack muffler which was great, only droned at 70 and 90 kmph so it didnt matter but then i smashed it on a gutter (damn country towns hate lowered cars) and got it replaced with a brand spanker. The new one was identical as i was quite happy with my note, but this one droned its a** off all the time and when getting off from the lights it ALWAYS sounded like i was trying really hard but not going anywhere. I welded in hot dog and its 100% better. Still get the sexy crackle and pop when i lift off accel (manual) and drone is all but gone. However when you open it up it still sounds almost just as loud but at normal speeds much quieter. Would def recommend keeping the rear res unless you have a good quality centre muffler. In saying all that, my 2.5" exhaust goes out the window soon to make way for a set of PH4480s and a 3" exhaust with a 3" high flow cat and lukey centre muffler and hot dog. Larger diameter pipes give a deeper note and ive got some big long term plans for the car. |

by it self? or with complimentary mods?
Because by it self the gain is sh!t all, and noticeable improvement is probably you driving harder or a placebo effect. |

I love the note mine makes now, redback 2.5" single muffler with metal 2.5" high flow cat, pacemaker 4499, and wade 977b cam. Sounds nice

As i said above ill have the pacemaker comps with a 3" flange 3" hi flow cat and full 3" system including lukey mufflers. This will be paired with a wade 977b.
Grechie made 174 RWKW with this set up (i bought the actual headers off him and we had a good long talk about how I could achieve this too lol). Also he did it on an EA motor I believe, so with higher compression and a ported head I reckon I should be able to get up there in term of same figures. More importantly, that exhaust system with that cam (not willing to go bigger as its a daily) should give a nice note. I might actually record the note on the first start-up, that way the computer will have no tune for it and will have not 'learnt' the cam yet. It will be f@rt and hunting all over the place |

thanks for the help
yeah thats what i thought.. but i have noticed 0 - 100 has improved.. and also alot easier to get the wheels spinning... im about to add extractors and a hi flo cat.. would getting a "big mouth" snorkle be worth the gains? |

But switching to a custom enclosed pod filter i could definitely feel more responsiveness in the midrange

on my ef fairmont project i got the redback 2.5" no rear resinator & i have no droning just a lovely sound & faster throttle response as there's little restriction in the exhaust so the motor increases revs alot quicker does any one know if a 3" mandrel bend intake has to be to a tuned lenght or doesn't it matter as this is the next job after i fix vacuum booster. cheers

what length would you tune the intake to? im not sure what you mean. do you simply mean the induction piping?
If so, my understanding is: Short + wide = high HP but less torque Long + narrow = low HP and more torque makes sense as you would get more air speed at low revs but that would become a restriction as you increase the motors demand for air at higher RPM. |

Had the Redback 2.5 with muffler and hotdog on my AU XR6 and by itself sounded pretty ordinary. Got Pacie 4480's and stainless hf cat immediately and sounded heaps crisper and overall better. Got it up to 138 rwkw with this and k&n filter.
